All-New Captain America: Fear Him #4 Review by (February 27, 2015)
Comments: Dennis Hopeless was assisted in the writing by regular Cap scribe Rick Remender. When Shea hits Scarecrow in the head with a cinderblock, the sound effect is “CNDRBLOK;” what else? (Other comical sound effects appear in this issue with one in issue #2.)

Review: So there we are: a story that would have been told in one issue back in the last century is dragged out to four overpriced issues just so Nomad can learn the meaning of courage. It’s a nice lesson but one that has been taught many times before. The art was serviceable if not great; the best part was how chaotic and menacing the page layouts were, suiting the action in the plot. Verdict: Okay but no classic.

All-New Captain America: Fear Him #4 Synopsis by Peter Silvestro

Nomad (Ian Rogers), armed with his horde crusher (a weighted staff) and the shield of Captain America, searched the sewers for his missing partner, captured by the evil Scarecrow. As he proceeds on his quest, he feels the first inkling of an unfamiliar emotion—fear….

Elsewhere, the Scarecrow has the new winged Cap locked in a huge birdcage, delighting in menacing the hero, who has inhaled some of the baddie’s fear gas. Nomad comes upon Shea and some of the kids locked in a cell and he releases them; he also rescues Robert, the victim Scarecrow has had locked up for days in a wooden crate. Nomad then discovers Cap in his birdcage and finds the sight comical—and he is then assaulted from behind by the Scarecrow. The villain snatches the hero’s weapon away from him and beats him with it as Cap watches helplessly; Scarecrow talks Nomad into fear—the fear that he may not be hero enough to save his partner. Shea and the kids appear suddenly and distract the baddie…so that Robert (a locksmith) can free Cap. Together they all quickly take down the Scarecrow. They lock up the villain and summon the police. Cap tells Nomad, “Courage isn’t about never being scared. It’s about facing that fear. Standing up, pushing through, and doing the damned thing anyway.” His contact restored, Steve Rogers agrees.
