Avengers: Millennium #1 Review by (April 11, 2015)
This 4-issue series is a repackaging of the 6-issue online Infinite Comic of the same name. The addition of Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch to the cover characters suggests that this is a plug for the Age of Ultron movie, as does the inclusion of Thor who isn't in the inside. But the correct inclusion of Spider-Man correctly implies that this series is set in the Marvel Comics Universe not the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as do the costumes of Pietro and Wanda. This series is going to involve time-travel. As does the Ultron Forever series that starts in the same week (another obvious film plug that is also not actually movie-based). There's the usual problem facing continuity geeks like me as to where this series fits in. (Assuming time-travel doesn't mess everything up anyway.) Captain America is the not-old Steve Rogers and Iron Man is not Superior, so we're pre-Axis. Hulk isn't Doc Green so we should also be before Original Sin. The problem is Quicksilver's costume. He is wearing the 1 he has in the new Uncanny Avengers series, as is Scarlet Witch. This costume of Wanda's is arguably the same as it was in Axis and before. But Pietro's Axis costume was totally different, being the 1 he wore in All-New X-Factor, which title also lasted beyond it's Axis crossover.

Synopsis / Summary / Plot

Avengers: Millennium #1 Synopsis by Rob Johnson
Pietro Maximoff races across the ocean(s) from Japan to New York and the Avengers Tower. The building''''s AI informs Tony Stark of his approach, and Hawkeye and Spider-Man help the exhausted Quicksilver in as Jarvis the butler prepares the autodoc to treat him. But Hawkeye correctly deduces that what the speedster needs is to replenish his energy supply with lots of cheeseburgers. And Hawkeye and Spider-Man start a running argument over the relative merits of a couple of burger chains.

Pietro tells them that he and his sister Wanda were on holiday in Japan when Scarlet Witch detected something bad deep underground. And they found a Hydra base above it. Wanda stayed to monitor the situation while he came to alert the Avengers. Captain America wonders why 1 lightly-manned Hydra base is a big problem. But he agrees that Wanda''''s mystic sense is to be trusted, so they head for Japan, taking Black Widow and Bruce Banner with them.

When they get close in their quinjet Iron Man contacts Scarlet Witch. He scans the base but can''''t find anything to worry about. But Wanda reminds him the problem lies deep beneath.

Banner drops from the plane and transforms to Hulk on the way down, smashing a way in to the base. Cap, Hawkeye, Spidey and Widow join him fighting the Hydra troops while the Golden Avenger flies around taking out gun emplacements. A Hydra guy in a hi-tech tank attacks IM until Hulk breaks the tank open. Finishing off the rest of the resistance, the Avengers prepare to descend into the bowels of the base.

Meanwhile Pietro has gone to pick up Wanda, and they join the exploration. Cap still thinks the base was too-lightly defended, but Quicksilver noticed on the way in that the local trees have grown leaning in towards the base. Black Widow has reached the bottom level, taking out some more Hydra goons along the way. She calls the rest of the team down, and they find what Stark recognises as an active time portal.

Iron Man detects that the portal isn''''t changing time in any way. Steve Rogers  reasons that Hydra aren''''t changing the past because they''''ve discovered that in this timeline they win.
