Captain America: Symbol of Truth #4 Review by (August 24, 2022)

Review: Okay entry in the series, disappointing for not giving us a Cap versus Crossbones slugfest, even after Sam punches CB for talking too much. New Falcon is becoming more compelling a character, though the lab escape seemed a bit too easy. Next issue promises some excitement with the arrival of Black Panther. See you in thirty!

Comments: Sam does not appear in costume as Captain America in this issue. Issue includes a tribute to the late Tim Sale, comic book artist.

Synopsis / Summary / Plot

Captain America: Symbol of Truth #4 Synopsis by Peter Silvestro

Falcon is a prisoner in the secret lab in the Sonoran Desert. White Wolf, appearing via hologram, dispatches Crossbones on the next part of the mission….

An incognito Sam Wilson arrives in Wakanda and sees a calm, peaceful, happy land. He is approached by two warriors who request his presence. They take him to a clearing where Crossbones and various henchmen step out of hiding….

Falcon’s mind drifts back to his childhood, recalling his abuela (grandmother) warning his mother about danger and then the test subjects break free and attack the guards. They unchain Falcon who takes on the arriving mass of guards….

Crossbones tells Sam he is about to be framed for staging a biological terrorist attack on Wakanda, after Crossbones kills him—so Sam attacks his foe first….

The guards are prevailing over the prisoners so Falcon hurls a bomb that opens up the wall to escape. Once the prisoners are outside, they express their thanks to Falcon who is startled when he learns one of the women is named Esperanza, his mother’s name. He returns to the lab to find Luisa on the floor, a casualty of the escape….

Crossbones fights back and has Sam at bay; Sam calls down an army of falcons to attack Crossbones and his gang. Sam forces the baddie to explain the plot, which he does: every African American emigrating to Wakanda has been infected with a deadly virus and the trigger is Vibranium. There is a sudden explosion and Black Panther arrives, angry with Captain America….
