Hulk / Wolverine: 6 Hours #4 Review by (March 1, 2022)

Review: And, as promised, there is a lot of action this time though not as weird or nightmarish as the cover portrays (where did the lightning come from?). The nasty Shredder goes down easier than expected, likely because they were reserving most of the page count for the epic Hulk/Wolverine battle. That and because Wolverine is the best there is. The battle between the heroes is everything expected and pretty cool. The story is flawed, though: the most obvious point being a blood transfusion from Bruce Banner…remember the last time that happened? Yeah, it resulted in a major character being added to the Marvel Universe. [She-Hulk. It’s She-Hulk’s origin we’re talking about.] But there’s no concern over whether Kyle is going to transform into Junior Hulk or anything. (Wait while I copyright the idea) so it’s a big oversight there. And I really can’t believe that Bruce Banner and Logan would be fighting over credit for success and especially fighting over who “the girl” likes best as though they were in high school. Both men would have too much dignity for that. So…mostly great issue and wrap up to an interesting tale.

Comments: Let it be noted that coral snakes are found in the Southern United States, not in Canada.

Synopsis / Summary / Plot

Hulk / Wolverine: 6 Hours #4 Synopsis by Peter Silvestro

Wolverine is battling Shredder on a small motorboat in the middle of Lake Vague and then the craft smashes into the bank, hurling the two combatants and hostage Margie White onto the shore. Meanwhile Bruce Banner tries to revive the dying Kyle Hatcher whom he had pulled from the lake after the villain had tossed him overboard. And then Bruce discovers that the antidote he had been carrying was lost in the lake; he dives in hoping to find it but it’s gone. He rushes the boy to the old man’s cabin to telephone for help….

Logan fights with Shredder who tears the hero apart, demanding the Logan admit he (Shredder) is the best there is. Logan then slices the villain’s grotesque right arm off. He then turns his back as Shredder runs away, knowing by smell that the baddie is about to encounter a mountain lion….

At the cabin, Bruce has discovered there is no phone and no anti-venom. Logan volunteers to catch a coral snake and that having the snake bite him would dilute the venom enough to make it suitable for saving the boy. Bruce points out that Logan’s healing factor would only expel the venom. Margie volunteers for the job but she has already lost too much blood on the journey and she might not survive a transfusion, leaving only Bruce….

Logan returns with a coral snake and has it bite Bruce. The transfusion is set up but it doesn’t work, Kyle is losing so they have to bring out the Hulk. Logan goads Bruce into losing his temper and the Hulk does indeed come out, destroying the cabin. As Wolverine takes on the Big Guy, Margie hastens Kyle to safety. The battle occupies several brutal pages and just as Hulk is about to smash his opponent into toothpicks, the sight of the recovered Kyle calms him down….

Kyle calls his mother to tell her he’s okay and she faints. Logan dumps the bad guys’ cocaine into the lake and he and Bruce argue over who saved the kid...and whom Margie likes more….
