While out swinging, Spider-Man notices a fur theft
being carried out by the same costumed henchmen he’s run into a couple times
recently. He swings down to tangle with them and ends up getting hit with a
strange gas bomb! The gas clings to him and makes him feel odd, and as it
fades, he spots a pair of familiar headlights emanating from an alley! He’s
proven correct when his very own Spider-Mobile comes barreling towards him!
Spidey dives out of the way and tries to snag the gearshift with his webs but
finds his web-shooters have jammed! He flips over the car, sure he checked his
web-shooters before he left. He attempts to climb the wall to where the car
can’t reach him but ends up sliding right off, his wall-crawling powers
apparently gone too! As the car rams into the side of the building in order to
shake Spidey off, he grabs a drainpipe, which comes loose, sending him
plummeting back down to the ground. As the car aims to run him over once more,
Spidey uses the drainpipe to pole vault over the alley wall and ends up landing
directly on a police car on the other side! The cops disregard the noise but
spot the Spider-Mobile rounding the corner. Thinking they’re chasing Spider-Man,
the cops chase after the fleeing Spider-Mobile but quickly end up losing track
of it, prompting Spidey to jump free of the car.
Later, Peter and Mary Jane arrive at the hospital to
visit Aunt May, and are surprised to see that Harry and Liz had the same idea.
After a short talk with Aunt May, the four decide to head their separate ways,
but Harry proposes they all double date sometime. Peter and MJ agree, both
pleasantly surprised at Harry and Liz’s burgeoning relationship. Meanwhile,
over at the Daily Bugle, J. Jonah Jameson loses himself yet another new
secretary after yelling at her for snapping his cigar! He then opens a special
delivery he received and is stunned to see some shocking photos that he
determines will be the end of Spider-Man! Back at his apartment, Peter checks
everything and finds that his web-shooters and wall-crawling seem to be back to
normal, as well as no problems with his strength. He heads out to try and track
down the Spider-Mobile and notices a strange mist filling an alley below. He
hops down to inspect, and briefly considers Mysterio may be involved, before he
realizes it’s the same gas he got zapped with earlier! And right on cue, the
Spider-Mobile drives once more out of the mist, right at him!
Spidey vaults up a fire escape to the roof of a nearby
building, only to discover that the Spider-Mobile has been modified, as it
drives right up the wall at him! Spidey runs and hops between rooftops in order
to try and escape the car, but ends facing a rather large gap. Spidey makes the
leap, forgetting in midair that his web-shooters no longer work because of the
gas. He ends up getting caught by the Spider-Mobile’s webbing, before getting
tied up and placed in the backseat, thoroughly humiliated at having his own
tricks used against him! With Spidey captive, the Spider-Mobile spins webs
between buildings in order to drive over them, dozens of stories above the
ground! Finally, the Spider-Mobile returns to its new master, and Spidey comes
face to face once more with the terrible Tinkerer! The Tinkerer commands his
henchman Toy to handle Spidey, who insults Toy in order to trick him into
ripping the webs off. Spidey decks Toy into a chimney, before hopping aboard
the Spider-Mobile to stop the fleeing Tinkerer. In the scuffle, Tinkerer ends
up driving right into a wall, sending them both flying from the car. With the
Tinkerer out, Toy attacks Spidey once more, who cleverly uses Spider-Mobile’s
web-cannon to web him up from head to toe! With the villains defeated, Spidey
leaves the wrecked Spider-Mobile hanging outside the window of Carter and
Lombardo, having had enough of the car for a lifetime!
