At his secret lair, the Jackal waxes poetically to a
bust of Spider-Man. He tells “Spider-Man” that he’s been waiting and planning
for two years, since the day Spider-Man committed murder, and the day the
Jackal was born! Meanwhile, Peter walks with “Gwen”, who’s unable to wrap her
head around the fact that there’s another her who’s dead, while she’s alive.
Peter admits that it’s been tough for him too, and Gwen says it’ll be alright
because they both love each other. When Peter doesn’t respond, Gwen runs off
upset, leaving Peter frustrated with himself, unable to tell her that he
doesn’t know how he feels about her these days because of Mary Jane. The whole
thing just making him feel worse than ever, he decides to change to Spider-Man
to find something to take his mind off his troubles.
Elsewhere, at a country home in Monticello, the
Scorpion breaks in to confront the owner, a crime boss named Santonio. Scorpion
aims to take things over for himself, declaring himself as the guy that killed
Spider-Man! When Santonio shows Spider-Man alive and well on the evening news,
Scorpion storms out, determined to kill Spider-Man again! Outside, Scorpion is
ambushed by the Jackal who's come to him with a plan to assist him in the
destruction of their mutual enemy! Back with Spider-Man, after having checked
out the parole office, he heads to where Scorpion has been staying. Spidey
snoops around Gargan’s hotel room and eventually finds his stolen loot hidden
in the closet. After a call to the police reporting the loot, Peter decides to
head over to the hospital to see Aunt May.
While at the hospital, Aunt May’s room is broken into
by the Scorpion, claiming the Jackal told him that Spider-Man would be there!
Scorpion threatens a scared and confused Aunt May until she faints! Thinking
that Spider-Man may still be in the building, Scorpion starts breaking down the
doors one by one, until Peter has had time to change to Spider-Man and confront
him. Spidey savagely attacks Scorpion, knocking him out of the window and
chasing him across the nearby rooftops. Scorpion is overwhelmed, until Spidey
kicks him off a roof in his anger, allowing Scorpion to slip away. Spidey combs
the area for Scorpion, while thinking about how the Jackal told Scorpion that he
would be there. Coming to the conclusion that the Jackal knows his identity,
Spidey’s spider-sense finally alerts him to the Scorpion climbing up the side
of the Chrysler Building. Spidey swings up and knocks Scorpion off, making him
think that Spidey’s gone nuts! He promises to do anything if Spidey lets up,
and we cut to Scorpion at the hospital apologizing to Aunt May! She admonishes
him for his behavior and as the Scorpion is led away, Peter commends Aunt May
on her gumption!
