Synopsis

Annihilation: Silver Surfer (2006 series) #2 synopsis by reviewer Rob Johnson
Rating: 4 stars

Last issue Silver Surfer encountered some Seekers and their 'hounds' called Currs, all led by Ravenous. They were seeking ex-Heralds Of Galactus like Surfer and Gabriel The Air-Walker because they still had the Power Cosmic that Galactus had given them. They attacked Gabriel but were disappointed that he was a robot. SS showed up and they attacked him. He got away with the AW but the robot perished, and Norrin Radd created a black hole to bury him in so the Seekers couldn't get him.

It's Annihilation Day + 19, 2 days after last issue, in the Eudorian Reach within the Skrull Empire (in the Andromeda Galaxy). It has already fallen to the Annihilation Wave and now the 'bugs' are carrying out resource reallocation - transforming fissionable matter into energised crystalline matter, and collecting combustible fossil fuels and inert crystalline matter. Some Seekers are with them, probably looking for the being that interrupts them - the ex-Herald Of Galactus called Terrax The Tamer. The Seekers leap on him (without any Currs).

7 light years away at the Skrull World Tercera Prime Surfer finds more devastation, but he also finds a single non-Skrull survivor called Tarq Maru in a wrecked spaceship, who was an indentured servant of Skrulls. Tercera Prime was the home planet of his species and he asks Norrin to take him down there to see, even though Radd warns him not to expect other survivors. They find nothing but dead bodies. SS offers to take him to the nearest inhabited planet but TM guesses that they'll be like this 1. But Surfer refuses to leave him behind to die. Later Seekers turn up in the system, still without visible Currs but claiming that the 'hounds' have Surfer's 'scent'.

The main body of the Annihilation fleet, including the flagship of Annihilus, is at the Skrull system Yarvan 7. Last issue Thanos saw Ravenous and his Seekers in action and asked to be taken to their leader. Now with his elfin sidekick Skreet on his shoulder and surrounded by Ravenous & co he's got an audience with the insectile Annihilus. They exchange 'pleasantries' and the Mad Titan asks why Annihilus, Lord of the Negative Zone, is waging this war on the positive zone. The Lord tells everyone else to leave (but Thanos keeps his little 'pet'). Annihilus explains that the expanding positive universe is expanding *into* the Negative Zone and he doesn't like losing territory. Thanos claims this action is against the 'universal balance'. Annihilus asks if he is going to oppose him. The Titan replies that he didn't intend to because his coming was foretold by someone he honours - Death (in Annihilation: Prologue).

The Seekers, now with Currs on leashes of light(?), attack Surfer and Maru. Surfer blasted the Currs and the Seekers hang back. SS says he noticed last issue that when Gabriel temporarily subdued the Currs then Ravenous resorted to talking. He has deduced that the Opposing Force/Essence (the Power Cosmic of the Negative Zone) resides in the Currs not the Seekers. Their leader suggests that the Surfer should kill the Currs and then the Seekers but he knows that SS won't do that because he has become 'corrupted' by whatever happened to him on Earth to turn him against his master Galactus (Alicia Masters is what happened). The Currs revive and attack again but they are now blasted by someone else ...

... as 2 more ex-Heralds Firelord and Red Shift join the fight. The Currs and Seekers lie possibly dead. Norrin Radd complains about unnecessary killing but Firelord says this is war. RS says that the Seekers had him until FL rescued him. FL  suggests that they are better able to fight together. SS has the unhappy duty to tell them that Gabriel is dead. None of them know what's happening to Terrax or Stardust. And they wonder how Galactus is doing.

It seems that Big G, currently in the Deada'an system in the Badoon Hegemony (in the Milky Way galaxy), has called Stardust to him and says that the 'balance' has been undone.

Tarq interjects that if there's even a chance that Galactus is threatened then they must help him. He adds that he's now ready to take up Surfer's offer to take him to safety, and Firelord says that he knows where there's a refugee caravan. As they leave SS tells the others what he learned from Gabriel, that Annihilus wants the Power Cosmic that they all possess.

In the Eudorian Reach the Seekers have captured Terrax and his axe.

In the Yarvan system Skreet wants to kill Annihilus in his sleep. Thanos says that he's now in an alliance with the bug-lord, at least until the Titan decides he isn't.

Annihilation: Silver Surfer (2006 series) #2 Review by (April 25, 2026)
Firelord (Pyreus Kril) was the next Herald Of Galactus after Gabriel Air-Walker, and was a fellow Xandarian. He debuted in Thor #225-228 where the Thunder God helped Big G against Ego The Living Planet. He was released from his service to G then, and was last seen in Thor (2000) #23-25 fighting against a Thanos clone to save Tarene the Delegate (later Thor Girl).

After a time using the Asgardian Destroyer armour as his Herald Galactus chose the tyrant Tyros to become his next 1 as Terrax The Tamer in Fantastic Four #211-213 until he was stripped of his power in FF#242-243. Dr Doom gave him back some of the Power Cosmic in FF#258-260. He was last seen in Sentry (2005) #1 and maybe the GLX-Mas Special.

After a few other Heralds G recruited Red Shift in the Galactus The Devourer mini-series but he ended up trapped in a black hole. However now he's turned up here.

Similarly Stardust (Lambda-Zero) only previously appeared in the Stormbreaker: The Saga Of Beta-Ray Bill mini-series but also fell into a black hole.

Galactus was last seen in the Stormbreaker series with Stardust. Before that FF#519-523 where Human Torch temporarily became his Herald. And before that in the 2003 Thanos series. And some time before that in the Devourer series with Red Shift.
Note that at the end of FF#523 Galactus had reverted to his mortal Galan form and gone to another dimension. It's not been revealed how he became Galactus again for the Stormbreaker series.

This issue includes Nova Corps Database entries on Galactus and the Fallen One, his 1st Herald. Apart from that the FO doesn't get a look in this issue.
