Synopsis / Summary / Plot

Avengers #33 Synopsis by Rob Johnson
Last issue Captain America was captured by the hate-group Sons of the Serpent. The Supreme Serpent told the Avengers to do whatever he says, or Cap would die. Goliath persuaded the other Avengers to publicly pretend to acquiesce.

General Chen addresses a UN committee (including Tony Stark's thorn-in-the-side Senator Byrd) where he condemns the US for allowing the Serpents free reign, and the Avengers for supporting them.

The Serpents order the Avengers to attend their next meeting. Goliath lets his lab colleague Bill Foster quit in disgust, figuring he's safer out of the way. Goliath and Wasp arrive at the public meeting where Cap appears to enthusiastically support the Serpents. But Hawkeye isn't with them, as he sneaks into the Serpents' mother-ship hidden in an artificial cloud, with his ally Black Widow by his side.

Goliath uses the public meeting to denounce the Serpents, but Cap opposes him. In the ensuing riot thr Supreme Serpent and cap escape to the mother-ship, but Goliath and Wasp hitch a ride. Meanwhile Hawkeye has been keeping the Serpents busy while Widow rescues the real Steve Rogers. The other Cap was a fake.

Steve makes short work of the fake, and gets his shield back. Supreme Serpent captures Hawkeye and uses him as a hostage to try to escape past Steve and Goliath. But Wasp and Widow sting him to submission. He is publicly unmasked as General Chen, whose plan was to sow discord amongst Americans.
