Avengers #22 Review by (November 3, 2013)
This beginning of this issue overlaps the end of Infinity #5. The Aleph threat cliffhanger at the end of last issue has been ignored in Inf#5 and this issue (even though it's mentioned in the previously page here). I don't know what to think about it. I do think this is the 1st we've seen of Sam and Izzy's relationship. The escaping guard on Titan manages to get a warning through to Thanos on Earth at the end of Inf#5. Spider-Woman says that the Peak got rebuilt with improved weaponry. She's probably referring to its destruction in Secret Invasion. It's unclear whether the later destruction in the ongoing Uncanny Avengers storyline has happened yet. Or whether it has but that fate will have been undone by time-manipulation we haven't seen yet. Annihilus is still with the Council here (along with Gladiator, Ronan and Super-Skrull), although he's not shown in Inf#5. The Brood Queen hasn't been seen since Inf#4. Mentor follows Gladiator around as usual. Shang-Chi is supposed to be in this issue, but if he is it's only in a crowd scene.

And if they do not run, let it be because they find themselves unable to do anything but crawl.

Synopsis / Summary / Plot

Avengers #22 Synopsis by Rob Johnson
The previously page concentrates on 2 things:- The infiltration of the SWORD Peak satellite as Thanos' fleet approached Earth in Infinity #2, and Captain Universe destroying the Builders last issue, ending with the Aleph robots threatening to self-destruct and "destroy everything".

Now after the victory the surviving Galactic Council fleet is heading to liberate Earth from Thanos. Cannonball and Smasher take time out on the Shi'ar battleship Lilandra to show their love for each other, despite joshing from Sunspot.

On Titan 2 guards are attacked by Falcon, Hyperion, Manta, Starbolt and Warstar. 1 is killed, the other escapes. The whole of Titan has been taken.

Black Dwarf, disgraced by his failed attack on Wakanda in New Avengers #9, is in charge of the captured SWORD HQ the Peak satellite. Thanos has ordered them to prepare for the Council's invasion.

Captain America contacts Iron Man, and the assembled Avengers and Council get the details of what's been happening on Earth. In summary that Thanos has invaded just to find and kill his son.

Bruce Banner knows the layout of the Peak and has a plan. The Council fleet will attack Thanos' spacefleet, evenly matched. And the Avengers will invade their planet.

The issue ends with a morale-building chat between Captains America and Marvel, Manifold and Thor. Thor is all about heroism, while the Captains advise just trying not to get killed. I think the Captains are going to Earth in a shuttle, while Manifold will teleport himself and Thor aboard the Peak. But I could be wrong about this last sentence.
