Avengers West Coast #81 Review by (February 28, 2014)
Review: Well, they had to find something for the Avengers Earth team to do; too bad it’s all about what an obnoxious bonehead USAgent is. Mostly a complicated prison break story, it serves its purpose in getting various bad guy characters into space again. Well done but not the most compelling chapter. The epic as a whole? One of the best multi-comic crossovers, marked by a complex story, tight plotting, strong characterization, and consistent quality. And it actually tries to mean something in the end!

Comments: Part 9 of Operation Galactic Storm. Issue also includes cover galleries and a reprint of AVENGERS (1963) #4 newly recolored by Mike Rockwitz.

Avengers West Coast #81 Synopsis by Peter Silvestro

Follows CAPTAIN AMERICA #399

At Project Pegasus, USAgent, bitter at being assigned to the Avengers team on Earth, picks a fight with She-Hulk (she declines) before being sent off to guard duty with Mockingbird. While keeping an eye on the Kree and Shi’ar prisoners, he manages to insult her when he thinks he’s complimenting her. Shi’ar champions Nightside and Scintilla invade and overpower the two, releasing the captive Warstar and the Shi’ar crewmen. The other Avengers arrive and battle the aliens. In the chaos, Kree captives Captain Atlas and Dr Minerva are also freed. The Shi’ar are recaptured but the two Kree manage to reach the Shi’ar ship and escape. The craft reunites with the mother ship and Captain Atlas finds himself a prisoner of the Imperial Guard and learns that "Minerva" was the shapeshifiting Guardsman Hobgoblin; he is relieved of the stolen Nega-Bands and locked up. On Earth, the Avengers force the real Minerva to locate the Shi’ar ship mentally then they contact Quasar to intercept it. The space hero and his companion Her are attacked by Starbolt and Neutron of the Imperial Guard as the ship vanishes through the stargate….
