Black Widow and the Marvel Girls (2010 series) #4

In a New York lot on a rainy night, Black Widow shouts to Storm to increase the rain. Storm does until the water forces a horde of wool-capped Moloids out of the ground….

Thirty-six hours earlier, Lina Trestle, Director of the Violent Gang Task Force, was talking to Black Widow, recommended by Tony Stark, about how to deal with a gang war, that also involved several missing persons. Natasha then asked why Storm was also invited and the X-Man informed her that the gang war started when mobster Cedric Cedrino vanished but then returned with a gang called the Caps, taking revenge of the Torino crime family. But then the Caps kidnapped former Senator James Onyango and he’s the important matter: they need Storm and Natasha to rescue the Senator. But there was one detail she left out: the Caps are Moloids, so they had called in the Mole Man, their one-time king. Nat objected but Mole Man reminded her that nearly all of the conflicts between the surface world and his underground kingdom began with an attack from above. MM explained that the Caps are a rogue faction of Moloids mobilized by Cedrino to invade the surface world and take over the Torino Family territory out of revenge. Storm asked what MM is getting out of all of the this and he explained that New York would cooperate with him in not constructing new subway lines in certain areas….

So later, the three allies show up at Berto Torino’s headquarters, as arranged by Natasha, to look into the matter. The butler admits Natasha but calls Mole Man a Hobbit so he summons his own Moloids to invade the mansion and attack the mobsters. When confronted by men with guns, Storm flashes a bit of lighting to knock them all out. Nat saves Storm from being shot by another hood while Mole Man gloats over his troops mopping up the gangsters. Bento Torino appears and calls a halt to hostilities, welcoming his visitors as guests. Torino then leads them into his study where she shows them maps and other information he has compiled on Cedrino and the Caps. And now Mole Man knows where his opponents are…

…so here, a few hours later, Storm brings down the rain, forcing the Caps to the surface. Before they get too hostile, Storm kicks up a mini-tornado which drives the Caps to safety and the heroes discover the entrance to the underworld. Storm enlarges the opening with a bit of lightning and they descend. Mole Man leads them through endless tunnels until they find Cedric Cedrino’s base. Mole Man confronts Cedrino, Natasha frees the prisoners, Storm holds the Caps at bay. Mole Man zaps Cedrino and after gloating, makes the mobster his lieutenant in his new plot to conquer the world. The heroines vow to stop him but he reminds they that there is no possible chance they can find their way out to the surface and they are his prisoners….
