Synopsis

Fear Itself 7.n #2 synopsis by Peter Silvestro
Rating: 3.5 stars
The mighty Thor has died defeating the evil Serpent in battle. As a devastated Odin prepares the body for the funeral pyre, he summons the All-Mother, a trio of goddesses: Freyja, Gaea, and Idunn. The Warriors Three break the news to Jane Foster. Young Loki attempts to express his sorrow to the Lady Sif. They join visitors from all the Nine Worlds who have come to pay their final tributes to the fallen Thunder God. Odin tells the All-Mother that he plans to abdicate the throne of Asgard and is leaving the realm to their care. The All-Father then carries the body of his brother Cul, the Serpent, off to Asgard-Space where he will guard it until the end of time. Thor funeral pyre is kindled and the All-Mother appears on the palace balcony, causing all to kneel in honor (and confusing the Avengers). Suddenly, from the flames comes the loud and boisterous Tanarus, proclaiming himself the God of Thunder reborn—and convincing everyone around he has always been so. The Avengers notice nothing as they hail the return of their old comrade—only Loki is aware that something strange is taking place. And so Thor’s story ends.

Fear Itself 7.n #2 Review by (May 21, 2014)
Review: This issue exists not to close out FEAR ITSELF but to set up the next story arc in Thor’s own title. Kubert’s art is good but doesn’t really play up the tragedy of the events. Fraction’s script contains its usual quirkiness: getting rid of Odin for the umpteenth time and introducing some new complications. And Loki is still one of the good guys. Not a bad issue, but it’s more prequel than sequel.

Comments: First appearance of the All-Mother. First appearance of Tanarus who next shows up in THE MIGHTY THOR (2011) #8. Cameos by Ms. Marvel, Red Hulk, Spider-Man, Spider-Woman (J. Drew), Wolverine. Issue includes a six-page preview of AVENGERS X-SANCTION #1.
