Hawkeye Vs Deadpool #2 Review by (July 8, 2023)
The accidents that happen to Clint Barton suggest that Black Cat really had given him bad luck last issue.

The 2 apparitions in Deadpool's house both play a large part in his current series. As well as Ben Franklin's ghost, the naked wizard is Michael Hawthorne (Necromancer). The latest app for both was #27. Necromancer will be next seen in #35, and Franklin in #37.

Scott Adsit won't be in the rest of this mini-series either, and he too will be next in DP#37.

The ending means that Clint found Typhoid Mary, Ivan and Dr Lusk in his apartment at the end of last issue, as Black Cat ordered, and they must have brainwashed him there as will be confirmed next issue.

Synopsis / Summary / Plot

Hawkeye Vs Deadpool #2 Synopsis by Rob Johnson
SHIELD Agent Scott Adsit is hosting a joint task force with agents from the FBI and other Government organisations to look into the leak of personnel info from Government agencies (except it was only from SHIELD). He tells them that the hacker Jeremy Ellsden changed his mind about giving the data to crooks and then was killed but no-one knows where the files are.

At this point Deadpool (Wade Wilson), Hawkeye (Clint Barton) and Hawkeye (Kate Bishop) join them, all now in their superhero duds. Hawkeye's chair back breaks when he sits on it. He reports that when he got home last night he found that his apartment had been broken into and searched (but this doesn't correspond *exactly* with what we saw at the end of last issue). Adsit mentions that the superheroes will be following a lead that Black Cat is involved.  Later Clint suggests that they set a trap for her. Adsit loans him Ellsden's phone which he needs back safely as evidence. Clint drops it on the floor and it turns on.

Meanwhile in a skyscraper office that Cat has 'borrowed' for her new HQ she consults with her henchfolk Ivan and Typhoid Mary. Ivan tells her they've been scanning for Ellsden's phone but it was switched off. But now it's back on and they've overheard a message from someone saying he has the stolen files for sale and wants a meet in Times Square in an hour. The other person is to hold a red umbrella to identify themselves. BC says the 3 of them will go there and kill both participants.

Clint and Wade are on a (low) rooftop keeping an eye on a red umbrella in Times Square. To pass the time DP asks Hawkeye if he *really* used to have a sky-cycle. Clint says it's in storage in Avengers Mansion. DP opines that if *he* had such a thing he'd be using it every day. Hawk sends him down to the Square disguised in a coat and baseball cap. He approaches Kate (in her Hawkeye costume!) who has the red umbrella, but to make it even clearer he calls out "Government secrets for sale! Get your secrets here!" as Ivan and Typhoid slink towards them.

Kate and Wade make themselves known. Mary is glad it's a trap because she's itching for a rematch with Deadpool (she was in 2 of his previous series). Ivan pulls a gun but an arrow from Clint on the roof blocks the trigger (and pierces his finger). Mary psionically sets Wade's coat on fire and plucks Kate's arrow  from her bow. DP dives on TM (all the while protesting that he doesn't want to have a date with her) as Kate side-kicks Ivan. But Felicia Hardy finds Clint on the roof top and kicks him over the edge saying they should have just killed him earlier. He grabs the top of a parapet but unluckily it crumbles under his grasp and he falls. He picks 2 presumably hardened arrows and uses them to gouge furrows in the wall, slowing his fall but he still lands with a thump. BC calls her team off. Typhoid makes a bus catch fire and Kate and Wade rush to save the occupants. Mary and Ivan skedaddle. Mary says it was fun.

The fire service deal with the disaster. Adsit isn't happy and tells the heroes to go home. Deadpool popped into a store while his burned off skin grew back and returned with a new Nofriendo Console. He calls an Ooper cab and invites the other 2 back to 1 of his safehouses (rather rundown) to play video games. The Hawks are dismissive of the idea but we see them later playing each other at Corrado-Kart Champion (Marvel superheroes racing on various wheeled transport including Hulk on a small bicycle with stabilisers) while Wade scoffs food.

Wade takes a call from his friend Scott Adsit. The other 2 take time out for food. Clint tells Kate he's heard that Wilson hangs out with ghosts and crazies. As if on cue Clint sees a naked bearded wizard teleport in and walk upstairs. Kate misses that but sees Ben Franklin's ghost walk through a wall and wink at her and then turn into something ghoulish. (Behind these panels we see what I think is a diagram of the contents of Wade's brain.)

Luckily their Ooper ride has arrived so the Hawks rush outside. Wade follows them to tell them that Adsit's had no luck so they should track down Black Cat. Kate doesn't want him along but he reminds them that he's got a kid (Ellie) who a SHIELD Agent (Emily Preston) is looking after, so he has a stake in this to protect *them*. Meanwhile Kate has Googled the deceased Ellsden and found a picture of him and his cat. They found no cat at his apartment so they figured he entrusted it to someone, and maybe the missing files with it. Deadpool steals the Ooper car to take them there.

They canvass the apartment block but no-one admits to the cat or the files. In particular the woman across the corridor from Ellsden slams the door in their faces. However Wade noticed cat hairs on the woman's clothes so he picks her lock, suggesting the proper Avengers let mercenary *him* do the breaking and entering. The old woman says she wants to keep the cat because they're both alone, so DP just takes the collar ...

... which has a USB drive on it. Kate celebrates. Wade worries the the woman has no cat food. Clint says "I am a patriot" (as did other brainwashed 'drones' of Black Cat last issue). He KOs Kate and stabs Wade and runs off with the drive.
