Synopsis

Invincible Iron Man (1998 series) #63 synopsis by Julio M2
Rating: 4 stars
Iron Man exits the sunken boat, and is attacked by a giant squid. He broadcasts a "baby sperm whale distress call" to get adult sperm whales to attack the squid and break free. Back in the surface, Tony Stark and the Navy officials realize what the submarine is about to do (detonate an atomic bomb in U.S. shores). Iron Man finds the submarine in Manhattan two minutes to midnight (December 25)... and two minutes to the bomb's detonation. Tony sinks the sub, defeating the Iraqi terrorists, and grabs the bomb, but is unable to deactivate it on time... An angel hugs him and the bomb doesn't go off.

Reunited with his girlfriend Rumiko Fujikawa, Tony tells her about his adventure as both walk past the churchyard where again stands the "stolen" stone angel.

Also in this issue: Pepper Potts fights with Rumiko, who chats with Angela in the cold outside, and then decides to give away her gloves to someone who needed them more.

Review / Commentaries

Invincible Iron Man (1998 series) #63 Review by (January 29, 2021)
Comments: Part two of two parts. Title comes from a song by the Rolling Stones.

Review: The magic continues, with a poignant reminder of Christmas as a time of hope with Angela actually managing to shake Rumiko out of herself for a few minutes at least. Pepper is still grumpy, though, and Iron Man gets to bash terrorists and carry off a bomb. Things are toned down a bit from last issue though maybe the Kraken was overkill. The odd ending with Tony being saved by a stone angel seemed out of place for this era, it would have been more of a Stan Lee 1960s thing. In fact, I’m sure it happened more than once in Atlas’ pre-hero days in the 1950s anthology horror titles. Still cool, though.
