Invincible Iron Man #4 Review by (February 18, 2017)
The techno-ninjas débuted in Iron Man (2015) #1, and we met their boss Tomoe in #7. She was made Inhuman by the Terrigen Cloud and became a Japanese crime-boss.

The IM armour that comes to the rescue is the Model 4 flexi-armour introduced in Tales of Suspense #85. The AI supposedly picks it because it's the fastest flyer!?

Next issue's cover suggests that loads of heroes will turn up. But the solicitation suggests they're not here to help fight Tomoe.

Synopsis / Summary / Plot

Invincible Iron Man #4 Synopsis by Rob Johnson
We left Riri Williams and Pepper Potts facing light saber-wielding techno-ninjas on a rooftop while their leader Tomoe had used her Inhuman technopath ability to take their Ironheart and Rescue armours and combine them into a large armour for herself. And that's still the situation.

Riri is excited to be facing ninjas, but her heroine Pepper points out that they're in deep trouble. When young Riri admits she hasn't any fighting abilities outside her armour Pepper advises her to run while she holds the enemy off. Riri doesn't want to abandon her but Pepper insists.

She makes a dash for it when she spots an opening in the ranks. She may not be able to fight but she sure knows how to dodge and weave. Meanwhile Pepper uses judo-ish moves on the ninjas, and simple punches. Tomoe tries to blast Riri but there are so many ninjas she hits 1 of them instead.

As she reaches a door Riri looks back and sees a ninja slash Pepper's leg. So she turns round and kicks a ninja in the back. He stumbles and (I think) causes another to stab 1 of his comrades in the back. She dives under another shot from Tomoe and grabs a fallen saber, only to be disarmed immediately. Avoiding 2 more ninjas she follows her saber over the edge of the roof and lands on a balcony. The 2 ninjas follow her but she throws a potplant at them and they fall off the balcony to their deaths below.

Entering the apartment behind the balcony Riri sneaks past the oblivious owner and down the stairwell of the apartment block. She finds a young lad using his laptop and convinces him that it's important that he lets her borrow it. After dissing the guy's computer security she sets to work.

Meanwhile Tomoe tells her ninjas to get out of the way and tags Pepper in the shoulder with a repulsor blast. And then they pause for a chat. Tomoe, who hates being called the Techno-Golem, wants to know all about the new Iron-person Ironheart. She doesn't believe Pepper's (true) claim to know nothing.

Meanotherwhile Riri has got her Tony Stark AI copied into the laptop. When she describes what's happening Tony updates her on 'his' previous encounter with Tomoe in the last Invincible series. He admits that he has developed a virus to destroy the network which links Tomoe and her ninjas, but it's untested. Riri also asks for a replacement Iron-suit.

At Stark Industries HQ Mary Jane Watson is showing the new CEO, Tony's birth mother Amanda Armstrong, the collection of old Iron Man armours when 1 of them steps out of its container, apologises, and jets off.

The rooftop fight has resumed. Pepper has gained 2 lightsabers but Tomoe blasts her into a wall. The IM armour arrives just in time, but Tomoe just starts taking it to pieces. Riri has grabbed a fire extinguisher to defend herself against some approaching ninjas. She tells her companion to hit Enter when the AI tells him to. AI Tony yells "Now!". And nothing seems to happen ....
