Iron Man #13 Review by (October 15, 2021)
This is the big battle issue that the cover suggests.

But next issue it seems both Iron Man and Korvac become like gods. And their conflict continues like that into at least the following issue as well.

Scarlet Spider (Ben Reilly) is here in this long story arc presumably before he becomes the replacement for Peter Parker's Spider-Man.

Synopsis / Summary / Plot

Iron Man #13 Synopsis by Rob Johnson
Iron Man and his gang have been involved in a spaceship chase with Korvac and his mob to Galactus' worldship Taa II where Korvac intends to regain the Cosmic Power he once stole from there. Shellhead got separated from the others but arrived at Taa II 1st with an ally he'd picked up, Avro-X. Korvac's ship arrived next and Avro-X got killed. And Tony Stark was damaged even worse than he had been already. Then IM's group turned up led by Hellcat, and joined the party by crashing their spaceship into the room hurting all the bad guys.

Now Korvac recovers and persuades his followers to ignore their wounds and accompany him. He knows how the worldship's computer system works and he takes them through a portal. And Stark can do nothing to stop him.

War Machine helps Tony up as Hellcat climbs out of the shattered spaceship. Scarlet Spider kicks a hatch open and Frog-Man, Gargoyle, Halcyon and Misty Knight follow him out. Patsy Walker finds Tony's detached faceplate, and also Avro-X's helmet (but Tony has no time to explain that). Dubbing his team the Space Friends he sets them to work. He tells his AI BOSS to wrest control of the portal system from Korvac. He sends Frog-Man, Halcyon and War Machine to look for a self-destruct system. Gargoyle, Hellcat, Misty and Spider will come with him to confront Korvac directly.

As the trio search for the self-destruct Eugene Patilio asks the other 2 why Stark put him on this team because he knows nothing about machines. James Rhodes reckons it was because Tony wanted to keep him safely away from Korvac. Then Blizzard ambushes them and encases armoured Rhodey's legs in ice. Froggy and Halcyon keep the villain busy while WM thaws his legs and then zaps Blizzard. However while leaping around Frog-Man espies Korvac leading the other 3 villains through another portal, and he follows them ...

... to find Korvac on a platform activating the stairway to the Transmutation Chamber where he will access the Power. But Patilio leaps to kick Korvac off the platform and they both fall a long way down. The android Human Torch flies down to rescue his 'Lord'. Controller tells Unicorn to keep watch on the portal they came through while he goes to guard the stairs to the Chamber.

Iron Man flies through the portal and he and Unicorn duel. Until Misty Knight steps through and punches his face with her bionic arm (which Stark gave her a long time ago). Unicorn still isn't down so she shoots him in the kneecaps. BOSS reports that he's gained control of the portal system, and Tony tells him to redirect all portals to here. Gargoyle and Hellcat appear in the Chamber door behind Controller and Patsy uses her enhanced mental powers to knock him out of the way. So Scarlet Spider starts to retract the stairs and close the Chamber. But Torch flies up carrying Korvac into the Chamber before he can do it.

As HT flew past Hellcat noticed 1 of the Controller's disc on the back of his neck, and realises that the hero is a puppet. Tony contacts Rhodey to tell him and Halcyon to take any portal to here and help the fallen Frog-Man. Then the other 5 follow Korvac to the Transmutation Chamber. Shellhead tells the others tackle Korvac but at the same time to keep Jim Hammond busy. BOSS informs him that his latest fight has caused brain-bleeds (that's on top of the earlier broken neck that his armour is keeping intact and pain meds are helping him ignore).

Inside the Chamber Korvac is heading towards a confluence of 'light' beams which are creating whatever implements the Transformation, while Torch flies to attack the heroes. Hellcat asks Gargoyle to carry her up to HT. IM tells Misty it's no use shooting at the HT or Korvac androids but she could try shooting out the beam sources. Patsy lands on the flaming android and rips the control disc from his neck while Misty's aim is good. But mini 'bots start repairing the damaged beam sources so Gargoyle and Spider start destroying *them*.

Misty fires her guns at Korvac anyway, joined by IM's repulsors and fire from the liberated Torch which do more damage. Korvac's underlying android body is uncovered and Iron Man smashes into him and punches through his chest. Something also chops his lower legs off.

The battle appears to be won. Halcyon and War Machine join them supporting Frog-Man. But Tony Stark collapses after his efforts. And unnoticed Korvac drags himself towards the Transformation area. Iron Man forces himself to his feet but can't stop Korvac entering. So he steps forward and joins him.
