Journey Into Mystery #637 synopsis by Peter Silvestro
Rating: 4.5 stars

Story continued from EXILED #1

The New Mutants slowly come to realize reality has been changed. They soon discover that the Asgardians have been transformed by Sigurd’s spell into ordinary humans, with no memory of their true identities. Thus, Thor is an auto mechanic named Arthur; Fandral, Hogun, and Volstagg are a bar owner, barber, and baker, respectively. Hela is the recycling lady and Leah and Loki are her foster children; Tyr is a homeless veteran, and the Disir are members of a support group for eating disorders (!). (Oddly, the self-defense teacher is Sif, who wasn’t in the previous issue). The Mutants approach Luke (Loki) who is thrilled to meet his heroes from the X-Men. They convince Loki of his real identity and the groups finds Sigurd, who explains that he panicked when he thought the Valkyries had finally found him. He read the scroll (that he had obtained from Loki centuries ago) that depowered his enemies and the Asgardians being caught in it was an accident. Sigurd considers that it’s no big deal….

Elsewhere, Brun of the disguised Disir bites into a stray cat and discovers that they can now eat anything….

Story continues in NEW MUTANTS #42

Review / Commentaries

Journey Into Mystery #637 Review by (October 7, 2013)
Review: A brilliant idea to have the JiM characters turned into ordinary humans and the writers handle it with a lot of humor and wit—though there is no explanation as to where Sif suddenly came from. Really, a support group for eating disorders? Far out, man.

Comments: “Exiled.” Continued from EXILED #1; continues in NEW MUTANTS #42. Thor refers to the film ADVENTURES IN BABYSITTING wherein a scene has a muscular working man being mistaken for Thor, the Marvel Comics hero.
