Dormammu has banished all heroes
on Earth to a pocket dimension and confronts Doctor Doom in a devastated New
York City, easily overcoming him. But this is only a Doombot, the real Doom attacks
from behind with a pair of giant mallets. Doom then uses the Eye of Agamotto to
focus and unleash an intense amount of light in Dormammu’s face, knocking him
off his feet. But the Faltine Lord did not come alone, summoning his horde of
purple demons. They overwhelm Doom, who uses the Eye in a way Dr. Strange had
never thought of. He gathers the power then flames on and unleashes an optic
blast to scatter the demons, and says the magic word, Snikt,” extending magic claws
to impale his foe. But the demons are close enough to steal the Eye of Agamotto
and hurl it in the East River. So Dormammu assaults Doom, revealing that he
knows Doom’s two secrets: 1) Doom is responsible for letting Earth’s magical
defenses weaken, and 2) Doom can make everything right but it would use up all
of his magic, which would damage his ego. So Dormammu takes away Doom’s armor,
breaks first an arm, then a leg and hurls him to the demons in the river. But
Doom uses all of his determination to rise from the river and confront his foe
again. Dormammu immobilizes Doom and throws a lethal punch. Doom casts a spell
that freezes the entire world but for him for one minute. Doom spends that
minute psyching himself up so that he can cast his remaining spell that he has
been stalling for. When all Earth’s heroes vanished, Doom had sent his Doombots
with them to help them escape—and now, Doom brings all the heroes back, knowing
they will side with him against Dormammu. And so, Captain America yells, “Avengers…assemble!”
