Doctor Doom is dueling with
Dormammu when he breaks the demon’s spell and releases all of the heroes trapped
in a pocket universe by Dormammu. Doom instructs Scarlet Witch to seal off
Dormammu’s portals so he can’t escape, assuring her that dark magic will work;
Captain Marvel okays this and the battle turns against the demon. He taunts the
heroes for taking Doom’s orders but Captain America and Iron Man inform him
that they are merely working together toward a common goal. Doom uses this
respite to recover the Eye of Agamotto and restore his broken body and armor. Then
Doom casts the spell that forces Dormammu to return to his own realm, never to escape
again….
All over the world people are
grateful that Doom has saved the world again and now that the heroes fought
alongside Doom, the world is truly united….
The heroes are now digging survivors
out of the rubble, people who have been kept alive by a protective spell from
Doom. Brain Trust wonders at Doom’s motives; Squirrel Girl says he’s trying to
look like a hero—and BT responds that he is succeeding. Invisible Woman turns
the ground invisible so they can all see that there is no one else trapped beneath
the rubble. Thor steps forward with a dangerous question: Could it be true that
Doctor Doom is the best choice to rule Midgard? Thor asks them to hear him out
and explains how Odin ruled the Ten Realms as King and Protector, saving them
from disaster multiple times. And now the world is clearly better off with Doom
in control. Iron Man reacts against this, saying that Doom has some ulterior
motive none of them has seen yet, to manipulate people’s minds. Thor responds
that this manipulation seems to consist in making the world better, concluding
that they cannot deny his deeds simply because they do not like the man…. And
then Maria Hill steps forward to inform them that Doom is hiding something big
and it will take all of them to uncover it….
