The Mighty Thor #700 Review by (October 22, 2017)
Comments: First issue under the Marvel Legacy banner, restoring the original numbering system. “The Death of the Mighty Thor Part 1.” Credited artists: Walter Simonson & Matthew Wilson, Russell Dauterman & Wilson, Daniel Acuna, James Harren & Dave Stewart, Becky Cloonan & Stewart, Das Pastoras, Chris Burnham & Ive Svorcina, Andrew MacLean & Stewart, Jill Thompon, Mike Del Mundo, and Olivier Coipel & Stewart. The Goddesses of Thunder were introduced in THOR GOD OF THUNDER #8, Galactus was transformed by the Necrosword in THOR GOD OF THUNDER #24. King Loki, an alternate, older version of the familiar bad guy, was a major part of LOKI: AGENT OF ASGARD. Throg was introduced in LOCKJAW AND THE PET AVENGERS #1. Mangog was summoned in THE MIGHTY THOR (2015 series) #17, and has been getting closer ever since. Issue contains a message from long-time writer Jason Aaron and a three page summary of the Thors featuring the original and the Jane versions. Added bonus: Issue includes Marvel Value Stamp 1: Spider-Man.

Review: What no Beta Ray Bill? He is on the cover and seems to be the only one missing from Thor's history. Anyway, this issue is a beauty with its multiple artists and art teams, each suiting a different plot thread planned by Jason Aaron. And Aaron lays the groundwork for where he will be taking the series, though most of these points have been seen in the previous series. Anyway, very nice and I can't wait to see what comes next. One wish: I don't want to lose Russell Dauterman....

Thor Odinson is called to visit Karnilla, Queen of the Norns in her domain. She asks for his help in protecting the Norns from the deadly intentions of Malekith's forces, who hopes to take control of his own fate by killing those who determine the fates. Thor agrees and dashes into action at the sound of the alarm while Karnilla ponders the history of the Thors. Though Thor fights valiantly, Karnilla has the Three Norns taken to safety and cuts the threads of fate to control her own destiny...and faces her enemies, holding all fates in her hands. She looks into the future, seeing upcoming events plus a shocking death....

In New York City, Jane Thor battles a rampaging She-Hulk, trying to move her enraged friend away from the heavily populated city. She pulls Shulkie into the sky but they come crashing down at the airport. A tower collapses on Jane Thor, separating her from Mjolnir and facing death should she transform back to Jane Foster....

In Asgardia, Volstagg is restrained by his friends, hoping to have the healers cure him of his recent madness. The Ultimate Thor's hammer crashes through the ceiling and Volstagg touches it, transforming once again into the War Thor and dashing off to end the War....

In A.D 896 Midgard, a much younger Thor battles trolls, matches wits with Loki, drinks great quantities of mead, and tries, in vain, to lift Mjolnir....

On New Midgard, untold eons from now, the Goddesses of Thunder are quarreling while King Thor advises the newly created Steve and Jane to live their lives without gods....

Galactus, having been transformed into the Butcher of Worlds by the Necrosword, encounters Ego the Living Planet and stabs the orb through the mouth; Ego bites off his arm and is transformed into Ego the Necroworld—and butchers Galactus. The sole witness: King Loki....

Retreating from a deadly confrontation with an army of mountain giants, Loki and King Laufey stop to rest. The giant king passes out. When he awakens, he mocks his son for not seeking protection from the pursuing giants. Loki reveals that the other giants have been and he destroyed them all, pleasing Laufey no end....

In Central Park, Throg, the Frog of Thunder, discovers the body of a dead human. He locates the killer and has a tiny thunderstorm rain on him until he surrenders to the police, confessing to the murder. On his way back he locates the trapped Jane Thor and as she starts to turn back to the ill Jane, offers her his sliver of Mjolnir, changing her back to the Goddess of Thunder. Jennifer Walters makes herself scarce, realizing she needs help and Throg and Thor heads off on their separate missions....

Hela Goddess of Death and Thanos declare their love for one another along with their desire to kill more people....

Thor Odinson encounters the dying Karnilla, who warns him to protect Jane. With her death, Malekith foresees his victory in the War of the Realms....

The War Thor heads through space but he is intercepted by the goat Toothgnasher knocking him into Old Asgard. Then Mangog arrives and tears the huge goat's head off—and then goes after the War Thor, first of the gods to die....but not the last....
