Story Name:

[The World Eaters, Chapter 7]

Synopsis

Thor #621 synopsis by Peter Silvestro
Rating: 2.5 stars

The World Eaters foot soldiers concentrate their attacks on the Colossus bearing the soul of Thor, on his way to destroy the World Tree. A concerted effort by the enemy slices through one of the giant’s ankles, bringing it to its knees. Odin and Uthana Thoth trade defiant speeches while locked in a violent embrace. The angered Odin lets out a mighty yell that is heard in Broxton, and encourages Thor to rise and approach the World Tree. The Colossus swings the Odinsword, splitting the tree. This traps the World Eaters in this dimension and the Tree, healing itself, expels the alien impurities into an unseen place….

In the aftermath, the warriors of Asgard rouse themselves and everything starts to return to normal. Jane Foster reassures Loki that Thor loves him and will always take care of him [Meanwhile, we see a grim Thor tossing a helmet-like object into a funeral pyre]. The Lady Kelda, still stunned by the loss of her beloved Bill, follows a mysterious voice out into the desert, as it promises to tell her how to bring him back from Hel. Uthana Thoth and his World Eaters find themselves trapped in a limbo in the Nine Worlds where they are vulnerable –and suddenly they are under attack by Balder and Tyr in Hel….

Review / Commentaries

Thor #621 Review by (December 31, 2012)
Review: A finale that was meant to be epically cosmic (or cosmically epic) falls flat. Why? One-dimensional villains, a clichéd threat, a battle that is over far too easily, confusing action (are Odin and Uthana Thoth wrestling or just yelling at one another?), a large supporting cast who do absolutely nothing, a lame excuse to bring Odin and Loki back, all drawn by Pascual Ferry in rough pencils sketches. Matt Hollingsworth is again the star with his bright pastels colors battling the deep red of the bad guys.

Comments: Final issue of series; title changes to JOURNEY INTO MYSTERY (2011) with the next issue.
