Thor’s bones lie where Loki killed
him, waiting….
Odin informs Sigurd Jarlson passed
the Rune of Thurisaz (Challenge) in facing Thor’s foes. Then he passed the Rune
of Uruz, (Endurance) enduring Thor’s doom. Now for the Rune of Raidho (Chariot)
he must make Thor’s journey so he opens a gateway to Hel which he must cross to
bring Thor back. Sigurd asks why; Odin tells him that Midgard is dying of cynicism
and bitterness and a hero is needed to show that a better world is possible and
necessary; that is Thor’s task. So Sigurd apologizes to Kris but she says their
romance would have happened anyway and he was nothing special so they kiss
goodbye….
Sigurd walks into Hel and is confronted
by three dead warriors who died shamefully and they desire to feast on this
rare living man. There is a fight and Sigurd smashes two of them with his
hammer, not killing them as they are already dead but wrecking their bodies.
Then they are joined by scores of more zombies. Karnilla the Norn Queen
interrupts and she knows why Sigurd is and why he is there, mockingly asking
him why if he can restore myth to the mortals, mortals are necessary? A corpse
named Magnar Longtooth says that mortals are needed for the dead to feast on.
He clobbers Sigurd, who clobbers him back. Karnilla reties his thread, bringing
him back to life as punishment and then everyone vanishes and Sigurd continues
his journey….
Back at her palace, Karnilla sits
with her beloved Balder, kept a prisoner there to forestall his own death. We
see that she has removed his heart, making his ribcage a prison to hold Hela,
Goddess of Death, after usurping he throne. She ponders the fate of Sigurd…
…who, walking across the plain of
Hel, find the ground disappearing beneath him, dropping him into the Realm of
Heven….
Epilogue: Amora the Enchantress rules
over Asgard, with her three captive counsellors, Athena, Zeus, and Ullr. And we
see all of the Asgardians, including Sif and the Warriors Three, turned to
golden statues….
