Story Name:

Our War, Conclusion

Synopsis

Wolverine: Origins #20 synopsis by Peter Silvestro
Rating: 3 stars

Wolverine’s mind goes back to his betrayal of Captain America during the War….

Ordered to kill Cap by his handlers, Logan sought an alternative that would prevent that outcome. He laid his plans with Baron Strucker, and then woke up Bucky Barnes, whom he had left unconscious in the hallway. Together they turned Strucker over to Cap as a prisoner. As they fly the plane out of there, Cap fills Logan in on his background: he was a 4-F who volunteered for the Super-Soldier experiment because he wanted to protect people. Logan is taken aback and impressed; he was born to be a warrior but Cap made a choice, something Logan never got to do. German planes appear in the sky and shoot down the Allied ship. Nazis, led by Baron Zemo, have rescued Strucker, and revealed Logan to be a traitor. (Wolverine explains for the reader’s benefit that he was under orders to help Strucker escape and figured Captain America could overcome the Nazis easier than Logan’s backup assassins.) An enraged Cap gives Logan a beating he remembers decades later, interrupted by sniper fire from Bucky—the first shot hitting Logan in the heart. The two villainous Barons get away, and Cap reveals that, despite his obvious death, he would not be surprised to see Logan again….

Now Wolverine chooses to respect Cap’s wishes and will not seek to avenge his murder. He writes "friend" on the base of Cap’s statue and departs….

Epilogue: A shadowed figure is negotiating with a hired killer to murder Wolverine, offering twenty million dollars as a fee. To which, Deadpool says, "Hell, yeah!"
