Synopsis

Avengers Solo (2011 series) #2 synopsis by Rob Johnson
Rating: 4 stars
Last issue Hawkeye got involved with Tulio Guzman who was trying to find his sister Marcia. He gave Clint Barton a disc of info concerning a suspect drug study, but later turned up dead. A lead led to Marcia's friend Melanie. But 2 armoured chars were also involved. Trace seems to be working with Marcia and friends, but Chance had been hired to deal with them and killed Tulio. The story ended with Hawkeye on his way to meet with Mel and co but being ambushed by Trapster on a roof.

Trapster has the archer pasted to a wall and has reported him 'neutralised'. Command sends a message for all agents to converge on the target. Hawkeye manages to get a gas canister arrowhead and toss it at the villain. As he crawls out of the gas Pete Petruski says this won't do him any good because he still has nothing to get him out of the paste. Clint says "But you do" and uses an arrow to slash the solvent feed to Trapster's paste gun, spraying solvent all over the paste. T runs away but H catches up with him and dangles him over the edge of the roof. He asks how Command knew where he'd be. Pete says they didn't but they could track the primary target. And we see Trace entering the building followed by assault troops. Hawkeye uses 1 of Trapster's own gadgets to 'web' him up and fires a cable arrow  to get to the target building.

Inside is Mel with others named Alicia, Emi and Jake. They hear troops klomping through the building. Alicia blames Mel for compromising their security but Jake says they needed the help. Emi just wants them to atop arguing and and try to escape. They hide as the troops search, until Hawkeye crashes through a window to land on some of the enemy. A leader tells his men to hold their fire because they might hit their comrades, and he reports to Command that the Avenger is here. A bolo arrow plus 3 other arrows at once take a lot of the foes out of the fight. He calls to the civilians to ask if their buddy Trace will join the battle, but Alicia says he's tackling some other troops elsewhere in the building. Hawk wades in with more arrows and kicks. Emi tells Alicia to take Jake and Mel and find Trace. Then she launches into the fight with fists and feet. At that point Command tells all troops to head to the tracked target and our 2 are left alone.

Clint prepares to follow because he's tagged 1 of the exiting troops with a tracker. He says he thinks Chance tagged Trace last night (last issue) and that's who they're tracking. But Emi insists on treating his wounds 1st. She introduces herself and says she's a doctor who has a handy medical kit. As she sews him up he asks if she was a doctor on Dr Forrest's drug study. She says instead that she joined the study as a subject because it sounded risky. She discovered that a corporation had taken it over and replaced a lot of the staff, and Dr Forrest wasn't involved anymore. She suspected an illegal organ donor scam, but she's not going to tell him what she actually found because she doesn't fully trust him (and to keep us readers hungry for answers).

Clint accepts that and checks his tracker which shows that the chase has left the building. He gives her a ride down on another cable arrow which she finds exhilarating. Clint comments on her action-hero capabilities and she replies that she's had to learn fast. She also confirms that they fully trust Trace. And she gets a phone call from Mel's boyfriend Jake to say that she's injured and he's getting her away and leaving Alicia and Trace to continue the fight alone. Emi goes to give Mel medical help and Hawkeye heads for the fight.

Trace is surrounded by foes and telling them to bring it on. Hawkeye chooses to investigate a car that's sitting idly nearby. Disposing of the driver he confronts the back seat passenger, a woman with a bandaged face. She tells her men to hold off and introduces herself as Angela Golden. She asks him to help apprehend the industrial saboteur (Trace) who broke into her research lab, destroyed work and stole valuable data. Instead he destroys her laptop computer so she (Command) can't coordinate her drugged-up (with whatever drug is involved in this case) thugs.

Trace tells Hawkeye that the goons are milling around confused, so the 2 of them make short work of them. Trace still thinks the Avenger should butt out. But Clint tells him that the enemy tracked him here with a tracker that Chance stuck to his left arm. Because there are still other goons following the tracker he takes it and attaches it to an arrow which he fires a long way away.

Trace then tells him that he doesn't trust Hawkeye because an Avenger is responsible for their problems. 'He' takes off his helmet to reveal that he is a she - the woman the others call Alicia but who he recognises as Marcia Guzman. She somehow shrinks the bulk of her body and says she changed her name for safety, and that the Avenger behind all this is Captain America.

Story #2

Fight or flight

Writer: Jim McCann. Penciler/Inker: Clayton Henry. Colorist: Chris Sotomayor. Letterer: Dave Sharpe.

Synopsis

By Rob Johnson
Rating: 4 stars
Last issue Avengers Academy headmaster Giant-Man took students Finesse and Striker in a Quinjet to investigate activity at his old lab in Death Valley (which he used when he was in the West Coast Avengers), which might involve his old associate Dr Myron MacLain. But something made them crash.

Striker blasts the Quinjet door open but they're attacked by 5 guards with zap guns. They take them down non-lethally, but Finesse reminds them they'd detected 6 external guards and she spots the 6th running for the building. He keys in a code to enter but her perfect recall (and eyesight) enables her to use it to get the heroes in too. Then to avoid detection Henry Pym shrinks them all to (something bigger than) ant-size. Striker's worried about getting stepped on until Finesse reminds him that they still have their normal strength. They come to a lab door and return to normal size. Dr Pym tells them the access this time is by retinal scanner. He tells Striker to detect the infrared beam it's emitting, and match the frequency as he looks into it. And (due to comics science) it works. The door opens to reveal android copies of the old WCA (Hawkeye, Iron Man, Mockingbird, Tigra and Wonder Man). And they open their (pure red) eyes.

Review / Commentaries

Avengers Solo (2011 series) #2 Review by (May 3, 2025)
Andres Mossa and Chris Sotomayor help Fabio D'Auria with the colours in the 1st story. And Fabio helps Chris in the 2nd story.

1 panel and a comment in another panel suggest that Trapster is involved in the fight at the end of the 1st story, but it's not clear.

Angela Golden is a villain previously called Golddigger. She was 1 of Superia's Femizons in Captain America #390-391 and made further apps in #394-395 and #428-430.
