Captain America (2005 series) #25

After surrendering to Iron Man’s pro-registration forces (which ended the Superhuman Civil War), Steve Rogers, AKA Captain America, gets arrested. Instead of facing a military tribunal, they send Rogers to a federal courthouse in Manhattan for a public hearing. General Aleksander Lukin (in control of the Red Skull) orchestrated such a transfer.

There is a crowd holding signs. Some support Cap, other do not. They gather around the courthouse. Sharon Carter and Bucky Barnes, sent by Nick Fury, are among the crowd.

As Cap climbs the steps of the courthouse, he spots a laser mark on the back of the police officer walking in front of him. Cap jumps to take the hit, hurting his right shoulder area. Amidst the confusion, Sharon runs to Steve. Suddenly, we hear three shots. Steve falls badly hurt, his midsection in blood.

Sharon tries comforting Cap. Fury gives Bucky the location of the sniper. Helped by Falcon, Bucky defeats the sniper Crossbones, an agent of the Red Skull. SHIELD agents bring him in.

Medics rush Rogers to the nearest clinic, but he dies in the ambulance.

While washing her face in a restroom, a nurse approaches Sharon Carter. She is Sin, the Red Skull’s daughter in disguise. She tells Sharon, “Doctor Faustus says REMEMBER”. Suddenly, she sees who shot Cap in mid section: herself!
