At the Raft’s Infirmary, Shroud and Elektra are fighting a horde of killers under the command of Killgrave, the Purple Man. Elektra wonders why the villain doesn’t just control them but Shroud knows it is because Killgrave is enjoying the show. Shroud fills the room with Darkforce, shielding them all from Killgrave’s influence and giving the advantage to the two heroes who are both adept at fighting in the dark. They also shut off the comm link to Misty Knight as the sound is giving their positions away….

Review / Commentaries

Heroes for Hire (2011 series) #10 Review by (April 12, 2025)

Review: And our two plots hit their stride, first in the hellish destruction of Yancy Street, a sequence that should shock longtime Marvelites who recall its frequent use as a gag and a beloved locale. And then Paladin and Gargoyle run into some strange doings, facing a frightful being who turns out to be the Monster Barry Briedel, introduced in issue #9; we’re still unaware of what his power is, a mystery reserved for next issue. But he is a fearsome sight. Plot 2 takes us to the Raft where the odd couple of Elektra and Shroud are battling the horde of killers controlled by a very sinister-looking Purple Man. The heroes manage to overcome their foes only to become the pawns of the villain for a nifty cliffhanger. Exciting issue jumping between the two plots makes for one of my favorite Fear Itself tie-ins.

Comments: Issue bannered FEAR ITSELF, as a tie-in to that event. Part two of three parts. Story takes place between FEAR ITSELF #3 and 4. Cameos by Captain America (James Barnes), Falcon, Colossus, Iceman, Iron Man, and the possessed Gray Gargoyle and Juggernaut. Written by Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning.
