Iron Man And The Armor Wars #1 Review by (February 18, 2022)
Comments: All Ages title set shortly after Tony Stark moved to Los Angeles in IRON MAN #217. Cover title is IRON MAN: ARMOR WARS. Trump (no relation…I assume) was introduced in DAREDEVIL #203 and subsequently appeared in CAPTAIN AMERICA #371, 411, 413. Fantasma was introduced in CAPTAIN AMERICA #352-353 and AVENGERS #319-324. General Rostov a/k/a the Red Barbarian first appeared in TALES OF SUSPENSE #42; this is his second appearance.

Review: All-Ages book presents a simpler story with art a little more cartoony but otherwise okay. We’ve seen the armor stolen before and since so there’s no real novelty in the tale. It also seems like Crimson Dynamo and Fantasma gave up rather easily but the sudden sight of Doctor Doom, master of the last-page reveal, is more startling then most, in Tony’s own building in Los Angeles. So decent enough story and art; we move on.

Synopsis / Summary / Plot

Iron Man And The Armor Wars #1 Synopsis by T Vernon
Iron Man tracks down and captures Trump the criminal magician and he is immediately surrounded by adoring fans and must make his getaway. He returns to his workshop where, as Tony Stark, he gets to work on his first big project since relocating his company to Los Angeles. He explains to his pal Jim Rhodes that he is through producing weapons no matter what the market is demanding of him….

At the big unveiling, where Pepper Potts is keeping an eye on snoopy members of the media, Tony takes the stage to present his newest creation, the Peacekeeper armor, carrying no weapons. But when the curtain opens, the armor is gone. The Crimson Dynamo appears and opens fire into the hall; as Rhodey helps everyone to get to safety, Tony draws the villain away then ambushes him with a fire extinguisher. Crimson Dynamo knocks him down and blasts off through the roof. Tony and Rhodey head back to the company to find the armory has been robbed, every suit of Iron Man armor has been stolen….

In Russia, the Dynamo reports back to General Rostov, the Red Barbarian, that the mission was a success, all of the armors were taken. But when he reveals that Tony Stark is still alive, Rostov personally executes the Dynamo for his failure….

At the office, Tony is confronted by Congressman Wyndham over the loss of the new armor, demanding he produce the suit or refund the five billion dollars paid by the government. As they argue, Iron Man crashes into the room, knocks Wyndham down, and attacks Tony. As Pepper evacuates the building, Tony lures the enemy Iron Man away and manages to sneak up behind the invader and short out the comm system. Iron Man removes the helmet to reveal the Soviet heroine Fantasma who stuns him with a hypnotic spell then flies away. The injured Tony crawls along the floor to meet…Doctor Doom….
