Synopsis

Immortal Thor (2023 series) #23 synopsis by reviewer Peter Silvestro
Rating: 4 stars

In Primal Time, the Demiurge brought forth the Primal Gods, one of whom was the horned Kemur who embodied Kingship. He conquered all until he met Atum, son of Gaea….

Now, Kemur is facing Thor, Surge the Executioner, and Hermod, while holding the wounded Heimdall prisoner. Kemur recognizes Thor as the son of Gaea and wonders if he can make Thor bow to him. Thor hurls Mjolnir and breaks the chain holding Heimdall; Hermod catches him and spirits him away. But Thor is concerned as he has only two of the three necessary weapons needed to defeat him—can a king defeat Kingship? Kemur strikes at Thor, who blocks the blow with Mjolnir and hurls Tormod, his axe, cutting into his opponent’s chest. Seeing Thor has struck first blood, Skurge and Hermod attack. But Kemur stamps his hoof, scattering the two heroes. Thor takes his magic belt Yolgjord, a belt created from Zeus’ own thunder, and fashions it into a huge ring which he puts through Kemur’s nose…which brings back to Kemur the memory of his defeat by Atum, causing him to panic and flee, establishing that all kings are cowards. Thor strikes Kemur with his hammer but it is an arrow fired by an unseen archer that kills him. The archer reveals himself to be Loki, who has been there the whole time….

Immortal Thor (2023 series) #23 Review by (May 20, 2025)
Review: Another philosophical entry by Ewing of dubious relevance to the greater epic, which is coming to an end in just two more issues. Yes, it’s been a trip but I frequently wonder if I’m getting all that Ewing is trying to tell me. We’ll see. For the record, Simonson is still my fave
