In a Broxton bar, Sif drinks, lamenting the weakness of Asgard—and Midgard, offending an obnoxious barfly. She rides into Asgardia and is met by Fandral. Unprovoked, she brawls with him, breaking his sword and unhorsing him; entering the city she tosses Fandral’s broken blade to one of Volstagg’s daughters after asking her to close her eyes. When the fat hero returns home and learns what has happened, he wants to punish Sif but his wife persuades him to send someone else. Soon after Sif has ejected the gossiping cleaning women from the Hall of Heroes, her brother Heimdall meets her and questions her latest deeds. She vents her frustrations and confesses to seeking the spell of the berserkers; Heimdall rebukes her and Sif responds with violence. Since talking is not getting the job done, Heimdall (following Gudrun’s advice) sends his sister into a "time out"….

Sif finds herself on a small boat crossing a dark sea; she reaches an island and goes ashore. Suddenly three warriors rush at her and she prepares to defend herself. But it turns out they are not heading toward her but away from something else—a giant bug-eyed monster that proclaims itself "Ruler of Earth"….
