After the death of Odin, Thor wanders through the palace
until the sight of a quiver of arrows recalls an incident from his childhood…
The boys Thor and Loki entered Odin’s private hall where he
met with his warrior chiefs. The boys spied on them and decided to steal a bow
and quiver of arrows from the room while the warriors are intent on Odin’s
words. They flipped a coin to decide who would commit the theft and Thor lost,
because Loki used a two-headed coin. Thor nabbed the weapons and met with Loki
in a clearing. They practiced shooting the arrows until Loki deliberately
jostled Thor’s arm, causing him to kill a deer. Thor was so upset that he ran
to his father who comforted him….
Balder the Brave joins Thor in the palace and adds his own
reminiscence…
Balder had been captured by trolls and was being tortured
and beaten until an unseen ally tossed a sword into the room near the hero.
Balder reached it and was able to cut his bonds and vanquish his enemies. Only
then did he spy the shadow of his rescuer and realize who it was….
Sif joins the two friends and contributes this story…
Sif was hanging out with a group of male warriors when they
decided to go to a tavern. The men told her she could not come in with them
because she was a girl, even pushing her and knocking her down when she tried
to enter anyway. Odin saw this and rebuked the men then escorted Sif inside
where all the men were kneeling before her….
After the three friends leave, Loki materializes in the room
and he recalls how, after the incident related by Thor, Odin took his
two-headed coin away from him and Loki ran away. A bitter and frustrated Loki
departs….
The Asgardians each lay an offering on a Viking ship for
Odin. Thor lays down his helmet and takes up Odin’s more elaborate headdress
and puts it on. Thor then ignites a fire on the ship and it is sent out into
space, all the Asgardians, led by Thor, taking a knee for the All-Father….
