Synopsis

Infernal Hulk, The (2026 series) #8 synopsis by reviewer Peter Silvestro
Rating: 3.5 stars

Infernal Hulk returns to his base, a desecrated church in North Carolina, with captive X-Men Glob Herman and Multiple Man. Hulk calls to the victims of the mad Reverend Jonah Devereaux to rise and thorny plants burst from the ground, tangling Glob and Madrox in their prickly growth. A minion informs Hulk that Banner is on the move; Hulk does not care, he now has the Pious Gardener….

At the Baxter Building, Bruce Banner works with Reed Richard and others to find a means of defeating the Infernal Hulk but nothing works out. The consensus is that they need a bigger Hulk to fight the Infernal Hulk and ask Bruce if he would be willing to…but Bruce declines, explaining that when Eldest split Bruce and Hulk, Bruce was made immune to gamma radiation. He has been irradiating himself but there is no response. Bruce suggests they find the cave system where Hulk faced the Eldest, maybe they will find something. Just not a better Hulk….

Bruce phones Betty at work but she is angry and bitter at his having forced her into this secret life while he has gone off to be Hulk again. She hangs up on him, quits her job, and calls her father to set up a visit as she scratches a bloody spot on her arm….

Bruce Banner, Reed Richards, Tony Stark, and Vision fly down into the cave system, accidentally crash through the floor, and are attacked by Skaar, Son of Hulk, who threatens to kill them if they don’t leave. Then the cavern is filled with the small, goblin-like Rutlings, who spot the wound on Tony’s scalp and lead him away. Skaar warns the Rutlings about showing the visitors the tree, saying they would take it. The Rutlings insist they are all friends and take Tony to a glowing tree of silver and crystal and as he stands near it, Tony’s wound heals. The heroes plan to take it to see if this is the weapon they need to stop the Infernal Hulk…

…who is growing soldiers like peaches on a huge tree—and then he has a vision of a silver tree…

…while Betty is on her way to visit her father…

Infernal Hulk, The (2026 series) #8 Review by (June 24, 2026)

Review: So in this installment, Infernal Hulk is mostly standing in one room, doing various incomprehensible things to further his wicked plans, while it’s the heroes who are desperately running around trying to find something to stop him. The two big revelations are that Bruce is now immune to gamma radiation, being literally cured of being Hulk. This would threaten the continued existence of his comic book so obviously it will be reversed. The second is that Betty hates him again, severely resent everything he has been doing for the Otherwise, we’re still in the “getting worse before it gets better” phase of the series with surprise visits from Skaar and Doctor Voodoo. And it ends with a threat of Red Hulk, which likely doesn’t fit in with One World Under Doom and Armageddon. So we’ll see….

Comments: Skaar, Son of Hulk, was last seen in issue #3. The Rutlings first appeared in INCREDIBLE HULK (2023) #22-23. The Soul Cage was seen, along with Doctor Voodoo, in INCREDIBLE HULK (2023) #12-13. Scarlet Witch has a cameo. Issue includes a tribute to the late Sam Kieth, offbeat writer-artist who also worked for Marvel.
