The Green Revolution Part 1: Bring Us a Leader

Synopsis

Adventures of the X-Men #1 Synopsis by Peter Silvestro

Wolverine is taking a camping vacation in the Colorado Rockies when Hulk suddenly comes down on him. Though Hulk didn’t know he was there, Logan takes it personally and a fight ensues. Then they are interrupted by X-Factor (Havok, Polaris, Wild Child), announcing they have been authorized by the US government to take the Hulk into custody. Logan calls them a bunch of traitorous mutant-hunters and the battle resumes. Wild Child takes on Logan while the others two capture Hulk by Polaris disrupting the iron content in his brain to render him unconscious. Havok then blasts Logan to end that fight too. The two captives are locked into special harnesses, loaded on a plane, and taken to Hulkbuster Base. There they are met by Major Glenn Talbot and their liaison Valerie Cooper. They take the X-Factor members to meet General Thunderbolt Ross but he seems catatonic, with another mystery person in the room….

While being transferred to a cell, Wolverine recovers much more quickly than they had expected and he breaks free and takes down all the soldiers guarding him. He dons a uniform as a disguise and contacts the X-Men in New York to summarize the story thus far; Storm promises to send help. Logan then locates the lab where the Hulk is imprisoned. When he discovers scientists experimenting on him, he flies into a rage and smashes his way into Hulk’s cell. And then the wall explodes and the Leader enters on a levitating platform accompanied by a Humanoid army, wanting to take the Hulk….

Adventures of the X-Men #1 Review by (September 6, 2023)

Review: Nice action tale, though Hulk is too quiet for most of it. Then again, it is an X-Men book and Hulk is only a guest.

Comments: Set in the world of Fox’s X-MEN: THE ANIMATED SERIES (1992-1997) but, along with the previous volumes, X-MEN ADVENTURES vols. 1-3, it deviates enough from the series to have their own Reality Number: Earth-TRN566. SPIDER-MAN ADVENTURES (1994) and ADVENTURES OF SPIDER-MAN (1996) are also part of this continuity. Part one of two parts. Second meeting of Hulk and Logan in this continuity but the first did not appear in the comic series. Wild Child’s name appears here as one word: Wildchild. Despite the cover, Wolverine does not wear his uniform in this issue.
