Black Widow #15 Review by (July 13, 2022)

Review: Aw, what a cop-out! The heroine loses an arm and a few pages later a dude shows up who can miraculously reattach it. Otherwise this issue, like the whole series, was quite enjoyable, though never reaching the heights of the first story arc, “The Ties That Bind,” because of its intense family angle and the overall mystery of Nat having a husband and kid. And so this volume of Black Widow’s adventures comes to an end and we’re awaiting the next creative team to have an idea for a miniseries or ongoing so Nat can return.

Comments: Final issue of the series; issue includes a farewell from editor Sarah Brunstad. Apogee/Voss was the villain in issue #7-10. Rafael T. Pimentel collaborated on the art, Clayton Cowles and Cory Petit on the lettering.

Synopsis / Summary / Plot

Black Widow #15 Synopsis by Peter Silvestro

At the Gala, Black Widow continues to duel with the Living Blade, despite having lost her right arm to him. Hawkeye appears and fires a grenade arrow which explodes, hurling the Blade across the room. Hawkeye helps Nat to escape….

Elsewhere, Spider-Girl fights off the animal masked guards while Lucy Nguyen uses her electrical powers, trying to bring Lars back to life. She succeeds, and the Twins normalize their powers and escape….

Hawkeye tries to comfort Nat as she slips into a delirium; Craig arrives with his friend who has the power to reattach or regrow severed limbs. Nat’s missing arm is put into place and the young man, nicknamed the Starfish for his abilities, rejoins it to her body. Nat suggests to Craig that he take the Starfish back to the Web where they will be safe. Craig has something to show her first….

On the roof, Winter Soldier has arrived to stop the Host from escaping by helicopter. He battles her men and once done, Bucky sees that the Twins have arrived, with vengeance on their minds. They throw the Host off the roof to her death, then inform Bucky that Black Widow has lost an arm….

Craig shows Nat and Clint that Voss a/k/a Apogee is a prisoner in the lab, his blood being experimented with to create super-powered people. Nat now understands Voss’ greatest fear being that someone would harvest his blood for immoral purposes. She frees him, with a warning to stop his evil deeds or they will meet again. Searching the building, Nat and Clint find White Widow fighting the wounded Living Blade. Seeing Nat’s healed arm, Blade realizes that she has found the Starfish, whom he wanted. Nat takes him on again and this time she has no fear, fighting rings around him and introducing her team, outnumbering him. He departs, reminding her this isn’t over….

The heroes catch each other up on the story and, realizing the building won’t self-destruct because the Host died first, they go back inside to feast on the abandoned food and Nat realizes that while she won’t see James and Stevie again, the team she has will do for family….
