Synopsis

Ghost Rider (2011 series) #0 synopsis by Peter Silvestro
Rating: 4 stars

The story begins with Johnny Blaze, Ghost Rider, reviewing his life and career for our benefit while he rescues an attractive woman from a rampaging demon—then the woman turns out to be a vampire and he kills her too as the two monsters were working together to trap him…

…so Johnny gets drunk in a bar., Then a stranger dressed like the hero of a spaghetti western walks in, introduces himself as Adam and tells Johnny he can be free of his curse. Johnny is dismissive, having heard this before and he knows no one offers him anything without expecting something in return. But Adam says the world is burning and he can take the Ghost Rider curse from him. Johnny says the world may be burning but people are still mean to one another. There is a man beating a woman in the street. Johnny goes out to ask him to stop and the man beats Johnny brutally. He wakes up in bandages in the woman’s apartment. She explains the man was her ex-husband and she invites him to eat with her and her son. But Johnny can’t trust nice people and explodes into Ghost Rider rage and motors out of there into the desert. He calls to Adam…

...and now he is atop a tall building in downtown Los Angeles and asks Adam what the catch is. The catch is that someone else becomes Ghost Rider, someone Johnny does not know. He gives Johnny some tree root to eat, explaining that the world is tearing itself apart through sin and he desires to save humanity. He tells Johnny to get on his bike and ride until the Rider is ripped from his bones. So Ghost Rider zooms down the side of the building, through the streets and through Hell itself until he crashes in the desert and realizes…he is no longer the Ghost Rider….

And Adam says, “The war on sin begins….”

Ghost Rider (2011 series) #0 Review by (June 18, 2025)

Review: A very flashy intro, bringing us up to speed on our soon-to-be-former main character while tossing in a typical adventure, kicks off this milestone issue as Johnny Blaze, dripping with cynicism and self-pity, is freed from the curse of Ghost Rider. We’ll meet the new one next issue as the new series begins with the official issue #1 but for now we can relax with our hero as we wait for the inevitable catch to kick in. And there is one coming because the Fear Itself event is in full swing and GR can’t escape. Some really nice fiery visuals make this issue a good intro. Shall we move on?

Comments: Tie-in to FEAR ITSELF, though not bannered on the cover. Issue numbered #0.1 from Marvel’s strange “Point One Initiative.” Part one of five parts. Story takes place between FEAR ITSELF #5 and 6. Art on the splash page by Mark Texeira. Adam first appeared in MARVEL SPOTLIGHT #17, though technically it’s Genesis 1:27.
