Synopsis

Ghost Rider (2011 series) #4 synopsis by Peter Silvestro
Rating: 4 stars

Alejandra, the new Ghost Rider, and Adam, her creator, have hijacked a space shuttle and flown to the space station which they have captured. Adam’s plan is to have Ghost Rider focus her power through the telescope onto Earth and wipe out all sin by mind-wiping humanity….

Johnny Blaze bursts into Hell to see Mephisto, demanding a space-bike to stop Adam. Mephisto refuses…unless Johnny signs a contract. He does and soon, he and Seeker are riding toward the space station. Seeker talks about getting Alejandra out from Adam’s control to set her on her destined path as Ghost Rider. Johnny points out that she is a young girl, likely overwhelmed by the power thrust upon her and surrounded by those who would use her…including Seeker so he pulls the lever that ejects Seeker out into space. Johnny fires missiles to blow and entry into the station, making a lot more noise than he had intended. As GR’s power builds, Johnny crashes his cycle, dashes past the lobotomized astronauts, pausing to apologize as it is his fault. Johnny tells Alejandra that she doesn’t have to listen to Adam, that she controls her power and can use it as she chooses. Adam arrives and blasts Johnny with Hellfire, complaining that God betrayed him, making him responsible for all sin on Earth. Alejandra realizes that Adam is merely using her to try to make amends for his own mistakes. So she blasts Adam and crashes out of the station on her bike as the station explodes behind her….

Review / Commentaries

Ghost Rider (2011 series) #4 Review by (July 22, 2025)

Review: A strange switch from the jungle of Nicaragua into the space station, with a change of genre from occult fantasy to science fiction. But now for the first time, we see into Alejandra’s mind, turning her into a real person (of sorts), and learning some of her motivations. Adam and Zarathos are fighting for control. At the end, we get a girl power moment that just comes off as foolish but will be reversed in a few issues as she picks up some wisdom. And Adam is the Biblical first man, holding a grudge against God for giving him the choice to sin; it’s kind of a warped view of Scripture but as I’ve mentioned before, comic books are not a great resource for theology. So Fear Itself ends while the new Ghost Rider moves on.

Comments: Issue bannered FEAR ITSELF, as a tie-in to that event. Part five of five parts. Story takes place between FEAR ITSELF #5 and 6. Art on the splash page by Mark Texeira. The content of Johnny’s contract with Mephisto is revealed in issue #9.
