Chapter Five: The End

Synopsis

Hulk: Smash Everything (2026 series) #5 synopsis by reviewer Peter Silvestro
Rating: 4 stars

Giant spiky future Hulk is trapped in a pit in Antarctica, being engulfed by molten metal from the Earth’s core and it is making him angry. The continental plate he is standing on collapses, dropping him even further into the Earth, which makes him even angrier. Then the broken pieces of the plate collapse, burying him. Incredibly angry Hulk lifts it all on his back….

The assembled heroes watch as the planet’s molten core shoots a geyser into space. Reed Richards estimates they have only minutes to come up with a solution. Thing has an idea to buy some time: he jumps into the pit and joins an insanely angry Hulk, offering to help hold up the Earth. Hulk wants to be alone; Ben tells him they can be alone together, which calms the green giant….

Soon, Human Torch arrives in the pit to draw heat from the environment. On the surface, Invisible Woman creates a force field around the molten core and Doctor Strange and Scarlet Witch create a portal in the center of the Sun to send a torrent of pressurized plasma to turn the force fields back into the Earth where Johnny absorbs the extreme heat, preventing Hulk and Thing from being cooked. The continents move back into position and Wanda opens a portal to send the plasma back to the Sun…and everything is good….

One final portal by Wanda brings Hulk, Thing, and Torch to the surface. Hulk shouts, “Leave Hulk alone!” which angers the heroes who just saved Earth from him but Ben assures Hulk they won’t bother him and Hulk walks away. Strange notes that Hulk, pawn of the villain, is a victim too. So he goes out on an icy outcrop, pets a cute penguin and eventually falls asleep….

Bruce Banner wakes up and finds the Fantastic Four camping out nearby. They assure Bruce that what Hulk did was taken care of, the person responsible punished, and the consequences mitigated. But he did almost destroy the planet, though the heroes fixed it. Bruce asks about their son Franklin, having the oddest feeling he saw him somewhere recently….

Hulk: Smash Everything (2026 series) #5 Review by (April 22, 2026)

Review: And it takes all the heavy hitters of the MU (plus Hawkeye) to stop Hulk from smashing everything. The stakes escalate to endanger the planet but while Hulk is being insanely strong, the good guys figure out a science fictitious way to stop him. A tale always standing on the brink of hysteria makes for a nice adrenaline rush of a comic book. And there’s a happy end—there had to be lest there be no comic books this month.

Comments: The final joke is a reference to issue #3’s meeting between future Hulk and Future Franklin Richards. Issue includes a tribute to the late Sal Buscema, Marvel Comics legend.

Funniest Bit: After the world is saved, Spidey says, “Welp, I certainly helped a ton here and wasn’t useless at all.” Hawkeye replies, “Hey, man, you get used to it.”
