Synopsis

Immortal Hulk #18 synopsis by Peter Silvestro
Rating: 4 stars

Doc Samson crawls out of the wreckage of Shadow Base A to be discovered by Gamma Flight (Walter Langkowski, Puck, Titania, Absorbing Man) who are hunting for Hulk....

Bruce Banner, inhabited by the Joe Fixit personality of the Hulk, is on his way to Reno, wearing an expensive suit and a mustache for disguise, unaware he is being followed by a monster....

In California, Jackie McGee is combing through the ruins of Betty Banner's house when she finds Betty herself, now a huge Red Harpy. She tries to get an interview....

Bruce arrives at his motel and after he goes in, the new Abomination (who has an extra pair of clawed hands concealing his face) destroys the taxi Bruce arrived in, killing the driver. Anna, one of the motel staff, goes out to see what the commotion is. Meanwhile, Bruce is talking to Hulk in a mirror, trying to plan how they are going to work together to end the world....

Meanwhile, Doc Samson is telling Gamma Flight that Hulk is planning to end the world. Samson can't see how this might take place: subconsciously Bruce Banner is working within Hulk to save lives, which is why no one has been killed in any of Hulk's rampages. Titania suggests that maybe Hulk is a bad guy now....

As Bruce Banner is pondering what to call the Hulk he is seeing in his head, he hears a scream from the lobby. Abomination has entered with Anna's head clutched in his face-hands. Hulk rushes in and the two fight...and then the center hands open to reveal the faces of Rick Jones and Hulk is horrified....

And elsewhere, General Fortean laughs....

Review / Commentaries

Immortal Hulk #18 Review by (May 29, 2019)

Review: Ick. While Hulk plots to end civilization as we know it, both Betty and Rick have been twisted into gruesome new forms. The Bennett/Jose art team is hard at work uncovering ways to illustrate the bizarre and gruesome plotlines supplied by Al Ewing. And that's cool, though this Hulk may cause nightmares; it's pretty clear this one has no concern over hurting innocents.

Comments: Jackie McGee refers to the events of the War of the Realms but doesn't seem particularly concerned by it, which is strange. We are told Joe Fixit talks like tough guy actor Ralph Meeker in KISS ME DEADLY (a highly recommended thriller with an unbelievable ending).
