Story Name:

To Possess the Power of Thor

Synopsis

Immortal Thor #4 synopsis by Peter Silvestro
Rating: 5 stars

Toranos is coming, inexorably…

…and seen by Sif, guardian of the Rainbow Bridge. This was at the request of Beta Ray Bill, to confirm Loki’s summons from Thor, Bill wonders if he is still worthy to aid Thor….

Storm is on the planet Arrako when she is summoned by Thor’s ravens; she declines, citing her need to remain on her own world but Thor sends a dimensional wind to blow her to him on the Gray Area of the Moon. She is angry and demands to be returned to Arrako; when Thor tries to explain the matter, she calls down lightning on him. Twice. So, he commands the lightning to stop striking him. Storm, who commands more than storms, drops the atmospheric pressure of Jupiter on Thor, crushing him to the ground and causing his ears to bleed. But Thor can do anything he needs to so he stands up and hurls Mjolnir at Storm. She catches it and, being worthy, she is transformed into Thor. Then she can see Toranos, who has arrived in power, and she understands Thor’s urgency. He mentions a plan and, as Toranos attacks, Loki appears. Thor asks Storm to throw Mjolnir at Loki; she does and the God of Stories opens a portal bringing Beta Ray Bill to the Moon. Bill catches the hammer and is transformed into Thor. Loki touches the hammer and he becomes Thor. They hurl Mjolnir into the sky and it is caught by Valkyrie (Jane Foster) arriving on Mister Horse. Together they are the Thor Corps, ready to face the enemy….

Epilogue: In his office, Roxxon head Dario Agger, in his deformed Minotaur form, is buying up all of Marvel, the merchandise, the movies, and ultimately the comic books so he will control the stories….

Review / Commentaries

Immortal Thor #4 Review by (November 15, 2023)
Review: A knockout page one showing us Toranos coming, regardless of what anyone in the Ten Realms knows or cares, starts this issue. And it only gets better from there with the stunning gathering of the Thor Corps, though their battle against Toranos is tabled until next time. And the sort-of-surprise ending has writer Al Ewing bringing back a character from his previous series, Dario "Minotaur" Agger, who had previously been a Thor foe. What goes around…. Seriously cool issue lacks the pretentious subtleties of the previous issue and goes in for epic mythmaking.

Comments: Storm is currently Regent of Arrako, a terraformed Mars, colonized as a refuge for the mutants of the earthly Arrako (which is an anagram of Krakoa, if that helps); for further detail, see S.W.O.R.D Vol. 2. Dario “The Minotaur” Agger, head of Roxxon, was last seen teamed with Xemnu the Titan in IMMORTAL HULK #26-33; he was deformed by Xemnu in the end. There’s a cute reference to Willie Lumpkin, the FF’s mail carrier, and his ability to wiggle his ears and it’s the funniest bit in this series so far.
