Synopsis

Incredible Hulk (2023 series) #25 synopsis by Peter Silvestro
Rating: 3 stars

A flashback shows us Thor and his allies in battle against the Frost Giants. After the battle, a raven snacks on a human corpse….

Now: Hulk and Charlie are on the roof of the badly damaged Sanctum Sanctorum and Thor has just appeared. Charlie is glad to see him as he has just mentioned that Dr. Strange (who Hulk and Charlie were coming to see) is in Asgard. But Thor recognizes the skin of Lycana and believes Charlie is the monster Valravn, a lycanthrope who killed his kinsman centuries ago and now wears the skin of a dead girl. Thor will not listen to Charlie’s defense as Valravn is a liar, and he believes Hulk has been deceived. Hulk tries to take Charlie away, Thor stops her, Hulk punches him, sending him crashing into a building several blocks away. An angry Thor returns and a massive battle takes place, ending with Hulk plummeting into the Hudson River. Thor tells him to remain still as he must take Valravn to Asgard….

Another flashback: Thor enters an inn, telling the patrons of Valravn. Each of the patrons has a story of a relative or acquaintance killed by the lycanthrope. Thor recognizes the young serving girl as Valravn and it casts aside its disguise to appear in its real form: a winged wolf….

Charlie has likewise assumed her lycanthrope form and attacks Thor. They fight and argue over the River and then Hulk hits Thor with a sunken ship as a battering ram. They land on the Rainbow Bridge where Thor encounters Sif and the Warriors Three. Thor tries to explain to his friends but Hulk asks Thor to just let them go. Mjolnir sits on the bridge and Thor summons it to him but Hulk grasps the handle and is hauled along by the hammer, bowling over the Asgardians. Hulk is hauled into the sky until a lightning bolt makes him let go. Hulk heads straight for Thor but Charlie swoops in and carries the Thunder God out of the way. She appeals to the former allies to stop the fight, resuming her original form to show she is harmless. Hulk tells Thor to stay away as they depart. Thor admits he may have been hasty….

As Clea effects magical repairs on the damaged Sanctum Sanctorum, Black Widow and Revolution (the former Winter Soldier) arrive, looking for Hulk. At least three gamma-powered individuals have gone missing in the past two weeks under mysterious circumstances and they need to learn if Hulk is connected. Clea advises them that if they want to gain Hulk’s trust, befriend Charlie….

Incredible Hulk (2023 series) #25 Review by (May 21, 2025)

Review: “Yes, she is!” “No, she isn’t!” “Yes, she is!” “No, she isn’t!” A lot of smashing occurs. “Well, maybe she isn’t.”

A surprisingly lame issue for one that centers on a Hulk-Thor fight, as Sif and the Warriors Three wonder why they’ve been included in this story. Decent art by Nic Klein does what it can but, lacking any real drama or menace, nothing matters. The part where Hulk hitches a ride on Mjolnir was pretty cool, though. And an epilogue sets up the next issue for some Black Widow/Bucky spy stuff, which sounds odd, taking us even further away from the series’ monster-centered theme.

Comments: Issue features a wraparound cover. Matthew Wilson contributed to the colors.
