Invincible Iron Man #8 Review by (June 18, 2014)
Graviton was last seen taking part in the general breakout from the Raft in the initial New Avengers arc. This can't be the same breakout because Spider-Man's got his new armoured costume. He will really escape later to menace our hero in #21-23. Luke Cage is also involved in the fight, along with the other Avengers mentioned here. Spider-Woman uses her pheromone power to calm Logan and Tony Stark down. Which is interesting considering she's a Skrull fake. But Secret Invasion will show that the Skrulls have got better at mimicking powers.

Synopsis / Summary / Plot

Invincible Iron Man #8 Synopsis by Peter Silvestro

The hooded killer in London locks on the name of his next victim, Dennis Kellard. Kellard on a plane in flight, Kellard looks out of the window and sees an armored figure. The front end of the jet is then sheared off, sending the craft and all aboard to their doom….

Dum Dum Dugan is in Colombia overseeing a mission to capture one Senor Sanchez. Nick Fury contacts him and tells him SHIELD will be investigating the plane crash that killed Kellard who was an international arms dealer. It seems that he was a partner with Ara Tanzerian, who is in hiding in Colombia as Senor Sanchez. Studying Kellard’s file, Fury finds an interesting name among his associates….

Fury then pays a call on Tony Stark, to tell him Karim Mahwash Najeeb, keynote speaker at the upcoming peace summit is connected with Kellard and Tanzeria. Najeeb is also the Taliban leader who ordered the murder of Tony’s friend Professor Yinsen. Fury considers Iron Man’s position as sole security at the summit to be a conflict of interest. Tony denies any desire for revenge, citing Najeeb’s importance as a moderate in the Islamic bloc….

At the Raft, supervillain Graviton is attempting to escape. He uses his gravity-control powers to flatten Captain America and then to drop Spider-Man on top of him. Spidey exerts all his strength to protect Cap, taking the brunt of the injury himself, when Iron Man suddenly appears, knocking the villain for a loop. When he learns how bad Spidey’s condition is, he fires an energy beam from his chest, slowly roasting Graviton alive. Cap tries to stop him but Iron Man seizes him by the neck before he can stop himself. He calms down and leaves….

Later at Avengers Tower, Wolverine accuses Tony of arriving 22 minutes later for the distress call. Tony denies this, saying his monitors registered a more appropriate response time. When Logan threatens a fight, Tony has his under-armor appear and is more than ready to take up the challenge. Jessica (Spider-Woman) Drew calms Logan and suggests he head to the bar where she will join him later. After he is gone, she supports Logan’s accusation but Tony again denies it, claiming there must be a glitch in the computer logs. He will run a check while she is at the bar….

In Colombia, an armored figure takes out "Sanchez’s" guards one by one with deadly violence. When the SHIELD raiders arrive they find Tanzerian dead, nailed between two trees, and leaving the scene is unmistakably Iron Man….
