Synopsis

Last Defenders, The (2008 series) #6 synopsis by reviewer Peter Silvestro
Rating: 4 stars

A new set of DefendersShe-Hulk, Krang, Son of Satan, and a new Nighthawk—arrive at the Omegatron to rescue Kyle Richmond by battling Yandroth’s warped monster versions of his former teammates, Hyperion, Dr. Spectrum, and the Whizzer. Yandroth is interested in the newcomers. Kyle is impressed at how the new team works together so well and confidently, following the orders of this Nighthawk who isn’t him. After the baddies are defeated and a satisfied Yandroth has teleported away, Kyle tries to question these Defenders but they put him off with talk of time travel and their limited window for returning to their own time. But She-Hulk pauses to tell Kyle he’s have to figure things out and not to give up on her as this is the greatest thing he’s ever done. They leave and then the Omegatron sends Kyle back to his own time….

Two weeks later, Kyle tries to talk She-Hulk into a new Defenders team, unconnected to the Initiatives. His talk about destiny intrigues her and she is willing to see what he has in mind….

Kyle responds that he is the one who bought it for his own purposes—and that he has trademarked the name “Defenders.” Perkins departs to inform Tony Stark. And Kyle assembles his four heroes to decide what comes next….

Last Defenders, The (2008 series) #6 Review by (December 2, 2025)

Review: And we go out on a high note, as Yandroth’s bloviating is limited to an epilogue. So we can sit back and enjoy seeing the new team in action before Kyle takes advantage of his foreknowledge of events to set everything up properly. Barred from wearing the costume, Kyle Richmond, bush league Bruce Wayne, pours his money into a new team, hoping for success. And Yandroth chimes in with his hopes for the heroes. And they are a pretty promising group…well, maybe not Krang, an angrier and meaner version of Subby. But he certainly makes for an oddball lineup, along with the Son of Satan. New Nighthawk is still untested and She-Hulk…well, She-Hulk is the one hero I would want to see on every team in the Marvel Universe. Does actually making sense as a team member disqualify her for the Defenders? Seems like it should. Anyway, it's a shame we don’t see a lot more of these new heroes but they’re not all that interesting. So I’ll just go and reread the John Byrne She-Hulk run.

Comments: This last set of Defenders is disbanded by Norman Osborn in the Dark Reign event as revealed in MARVEL ZOMBIES 4 #1. Kyle Richmond then reassembles them in VENGEANCE #1. Letters by Richard Starkings, Comicraft, and Albert Deschenes.
