Rating: 4.5 stars

Dr. Calvin Zabo boards a cab, asking to go to Long Island City. While in transit, he debates various scheme for killing Sigurd Jarlson, causing the hero to betray himself. The cab driver grows increasingly nervous as Zabo decides on vehicular manslaughter. He drinks the chemical that transforms him into Mister Hyde, then kills the cabbie by smashing his face into the steering wheel….

Back at Kris’s apartment, Sigurd is in bed with Kris, their first aid session turning into kissing and sex. But now Kris is curious, why would a supervillain like Cobra, nemesis of Beta Ray Bill, be hunting down an amnesiac construction worker like Sigurd? This leads to more kissing….

Eventually they leave home, pondering the mystery of Sigurd’s identity as they walk down the street. Then they see a car speeding right at them, Hyde at the wheel, the smashed body of the cabbie by his side. Saying, “Go limp,” Sigurd pushes Kris out of the way and the car hits him, causing him to spin through the air, his hammer lodging in the windshield, the cord yanking him back onto the trunk. He has a vision of Thor promising he will be sore when he awakens but now he has work to do. Hyde steps on the gas, driving recklessly through the streets, and then he unhooks the hammer from the windshield; Sigurd catches the hammer, hanging on to the Cab sign on the vehicle’s roof. Hyde aims at a blind man and his companion as they cross a street; Sigurd smashes in the driver’s side window, hitting Hyde’s head with the hammer, causing him to miss the couple. Hyde regains control of the cab and heads straight for a tanker truck in the middle of a U-turn in a narrow street by a Roxxon electric substation. Sigurd hurls the hammer, wrapping the cord around a telephone pole and he is able to force the cab to swerve, crashing into the power station and hurling Hyde through the windshield and into a dynamo to be electrocuted….

At Roxxon Headquarters, CEO Dario Agger receives the report on the blackout caused by Hyde’s wreck. Agger knows they will be spending a lot of money to repair the station as well as hushing up Hyde’s involvement as they have already done for Cobra (last issue). Agger wonders what Blake is doing in his fight against Sigurd Jarlson and schedules a “performance review” for him. In the meantime they have to shut down this game with Jarlson so he calls in the Radioactive Man….

Mortal Thor, The (2025 series) #7 Review by (February 25, 2026)

Review: Mister Hyde is one of my favorite Marvel villains. It’s because of all the baddies whose main power is superstrength, he is by far the nastiest and meanest. Therefore there is a great deal of satisfaction in seeing him get a beating from a good guy. That’s why he makes an ideal nemesis for Thor: so he can be clobbered by one of Marvel’s heavy hitters. Cap is okay. Thor is ideal. Hulk is absolute bliss. And now it’s the Mortal Thor, who will have to use a great deal of cunning in defeating Hyde, who is armed with a car. The issue-long violent action scene is an impressive one and the end is satisfying (ZAAAP!). And it appears that Radioactive Man’s turn is next. Life is good.

Comments: Here’s a reminder that in this alternate reality, Thor never existed, Beta Ray Bill taking his place as a founding Avenger and big name hero. Mister Hyde most recently appeared in AVENGERS (2023) #25-28; before that he was teamed with Cobra in IMMORTAL THOR #16-18; this issue also includes a rare appearance of his alter ego, Calvin Zabo. Dario "The Minotaur" Agger, head of Roxxon, has been a foe of Thor ever since THOR, GOD OF THUNDER #9, most recently in THE IMMORTAL THOR #4-8; he also caused trouble for Hulk in THE IMMORTAL HULK #26-33. Calvin Zabo’s reference to Winston Smith and Julia is from the climax to 1984 by George Orwell, the protagonist of the story betraying himself by betraying his lover.
