Synopsis / Summary / Plot

Spectacular Spider-Man #16 Synopsis by Peter Silvestro

Spider-Man awakens webbed to a wall inside the skyscraper taken over by the Queen, Adriana Soria. As her minions continue to renovate the building into a nest for her, she approaches Spidey and informs him she has chosen him as her mate. When he tries to rebuff her, she slaps him and he sinks back into a coma….

The seemingly romantic kiss between Spidey and the Queen (at the end of last issue) was televised, leading to jokes in the media and confusion on the part of Spidey’s allies. Nick Fury has the building surrounded by the military but his superior suggests they wait to see what Captain America is doing….

…which is hanging upside down in webs in the Queen’s lair. Cap breaks free and hurls his shield, slicing through Spidey’s bonds. The two heroes fight their way through the enslaved citizens, dodging the Queen’s telekinetic attacks and make it outside. Despite Cap’s warning that she controls humans who bear the "insect gene" (which includes Spidey, apparently), Webhead tries to capture her but she holds him back by ordering several of her followers to throw themselves off the roof to heir deaths. The Queen overpowers him but a military jet fires a missile at her, which she is able to deflect but it distracts her long enough for Cap to push her off the ledge. Cap scolds the woozy Spidey for his stubbornness; Spidey reminds him that Cap was once that way too. The heroes part but not for long….
