Avengers #2 Review by (June 24, 2023)
So, in the background Kang wants the Avengers to stop Myrddin from getting the Timeless Moment which would apparently be very bad for all concerned (see Timeless (2022) 1-shot). But in the meantime the Avengers are going to have to face a series of Tribulation Events, which don't seem to have been sent by Myrddin. But Kang seems to say that these Events have been arranged by someone to test the heroes and make them stronger. (Sounds like a replay of All-Out Avengers/Avengers Beyond.)

Synopsis / Summary / Plot

Avengers #2 Synopsis by Rob Johnson
In the 1st issue Terminus tried to get hold of Project PEGASUS' artificial black hole reactor. Captain Marvel's new Avengers team stopped him but the reactor was damaged. CM carried it into the sky as Scarlet Witch cast a spell which contained the explosion. However Carol Danvers was transported to a null-time where Kang The Conqueror was dying but had a warning for her.

Wanda Maximoff, Vision and Thor surround the black hole which is collapsing and they don't know how to rescue Carol. But then she reappear with bleeding Kang in her arms.

We skip forward a bit to Black Panther (T'Challa) in Mexico City where Hydra are holding 50 hostages with a death-spore bioweapon demanding the release of some of their leaders. We learn that Hydra intend to release the spores no matter what happens. BP breaks in to the building and swiftly takes down all of the terrorists and then reports back to CM that it was as 'he' said.

Back in the null-time Kang had been holding his guts in and waiting for when he knew Marvel would arrive. He said he had things she needed to hear but Carol didn't trust their long-time foe. So to gain her trust he gave her a list of 1000 people the team could save in the next 24 hours.

In Central India Thor has stopped a train from falling through a ruined bridge into the river below. Many more lives saved on Kang's list.

In null-time Kang admitted that he didn't care about those lives but he wanted to bribe the Avengers to gain revenge on Myrddin and the Twilight Court who killed him (in the 2022 Timeless issue). He told Danvers that the villain sought a prize that Kang had been after too. But if he gets it then the whole universe will be doomed. And Kang offered even more info about what was coming for them, called the Tribulation Events.

Now Iron Man and Vision save an aircraft over Dublin with 1 of its engines on fire.

Kang told CM about mass-casualty events that would hit Earth. He mentioned the King Of Magic, the Death Moon, the Cannibal Culture, the Endless Night and the Others. He didn't know the order of their arrival but he did know that the Impossible City would be 1st. But Carol was concerned about keeping *him* alive.

Captain America (Sam Wilson) finds a trucker named Paul outside Pittsburgh who's about to take some pills so he can stay awake to deliver desperately needed medical supplies to Columbus. Cap tells him he's going to lose concentration in Zanesville and cause an accident in which he and 43 others die, and the meds won't get through. So now Sam will drive the truck while Paul gets some sleep.

In New York City in the Jarvis Lounge Thor returns through a portal arranged by Scarlet Witch. She's been providing 'transport' and now all 1000 people have been saved, but she thinks they need a better solution in future so that she can be a field operative. Thor ponders whether they could use Bifrost, the Rainbow Bridge. Captain Marvel has been coordinating their efforts while keeping on eye on Kang's condition in his hospital bed, waiting for him to regain consciousness and tell them more.

And above the Earth the Impossible City spacecraft comes through a warp gate.
