Synopsis / Summary / Plot

Avengers Forever #8 Synopsis by Rob Johnson
On Earth 56337 Thor has climbed a Himalayan mountain from which no-one has ever returned. He was hoping to escape Mjolnir but it still finds him. This Thor can't lift the hammer because he's unworthy. He failed to stop the Multiversal Masters Of Evil from destroying Asgard and taking over Midgard. The Asgardian immortal has became a homeless drifter but Mjolnir keeps following him around as if to mock him.

The no longer God Of Thunder tries to smash the hammer with his fists but only damages himself. he's interrupted by Lei-Kung The Thunderer, guardian of K'un-Lun, who takes him there through a mystic portal. But the MMOE came even here and killed everyone bar himself. The only structure that still endures is the door leading to the dragon Shou-Lao, the source of the power of the Iron Fist. The Thunderer offers to train the ex-Thunderer in punching better, which Thor interprets as training to become the next Iron Fist.

Day and night Thor pummels Mjolnir, but the Uru metal cannot be broken and instead breaks the bones in the god's hands. But the wounds heal and after 30 days the hammer starts to dodge the blows as if it's beginning to feel them. Which only encourages Thor to try harder. Then Mjolnir responds by attacking with thunder and lightning. Lei-Kung goads Thor to punch the storm. And the hammer falls tamed. But Thor declines to pick it up.

This pleases Lei-Kung who now thinks Thor worthy of fighting *him* rather than a simple hammer. He is the guardian of Shou-Lao so the Asgardian must get through *him*. They exchange blows until a mighty punch sends the guardian flying through the air to break down the door he was guarding. Lei-Kung describes that as the perfect punch which it was an honour to receive.

They enter the cavern to find the bones of the dragon. Lei-Kung had misled him, there is no longer an Iron Fist power to claim. Instead he has trained the ex-God Of Thunder to be the God Of Fists. Mjolnir is still floating nearby and gives a little crackle of lightning. Thor says it can accompany him if he likes.

And then Ghost Rider and Ant-Man turn up in the Hell Charger and invite him to join their multiversal team.
