Black Widow and the Marvel Girls (2010 series) #2

Black Widow and Wasp are on the run in Latveria when they come upon some farmers; Natasha doesn’t trust them as they don’t move right so she charges them, firing her Widow’s Bites, exposing them as robots. They destroy the robots while Natasha lectures Jan on the importance of information and her obvious distrust of Nat. They don the famers’ clothing and carry off the wrecked Doombot they intend to take back to the USA with them….

Five hours earlier, the Avengers (Black Panther, Black Widow, Iron Man, Scarlet Witch, Thor, Vision, Wasp) arrived in Latveria, invited by Doctor Doom to escort roboticist Professor Swinson back to America. They suspect Doom of some ulterior motive so they are on their guard. Natasha, away from the others, explains to Wasp how she openly distrusts Doom as Swinson has been trying to escape for years so why would Doom suddenly allow him to leave for America? The others are also not quite trusting of Black Widow as she is a recent addition to the Avengers but at this point they meet with Doom. Doom immediately orders their arrest, accusing them of bringing a robot (Vision) into his country to steal their military and scientific secrets. He demands that they leave Vision to be examined to find out what he has stolen. So Vision shuts himself off with an EMP that also shuts down Doom and the Doombots long enough for them to escape. Scarlet Witch blows apart some buildings while Swinson pleads to go with them. Wasp and Natasha clear a path back to the Quinjet but the Widow is distracted so she tells the others to leave without her. The ship gets airborne and Iron Man and Thor head outside to fight off pursuing Doombots but Jan is hurled out of the ship, plummeting toward the ground with her wings damaged. Natasha catches her in a forkful of hay. They recover a damaged Doombot and plan to smuggle it out of the country….

Later, Jan and Natasha arrive at a local pub; Jan questions Nat’s plan to hang out there for a while but Nat insists it’s the best place to pick up information. So Jan sits at the bar while Nat mingles with the locals and learns everything they need to know and then some. They take the Doombot to a small airport where they steal a biplane and fly off just ahead of pursuers. There’s a battle in the sky, the plane is disabled and Janet, her wings still not working, plummets to her doom. So Natasha, also without a parachute, dives after her, laughing at the odd sense of having no control over matters. They are rescued by Iron Man. Back in the Quinjet, Tony takes Jan aside to ask her about Black Widow. Jan says Natasha is not a very likeable but Jan does trust her completely….
