Ritchie Gilmore, formerly the superhero named Prodigy, has
been employed as a file clerk in the Department of Justice when he receives a
message from Commander Steve Rogers. In view of the Serpent’s invasion, as many
heroes as possible are needed so Rogers asks Ritchie to be the head of a new
Initiative, recruiting as many former heroes as he can. And so….
In Atlanta, the Cavalry get the call, with Thor Girl and
Ultragirl, though the former doesn’t feel right, taking the form of an
Asgardian when the real ones have abandoned Earth….
In Manhattan, Gravity and Firestar consider the offer,
though Gravity is still confused by the moral ambiguity of their actions….
In Illinois, Cloud 9 tells Komodo that she does not want to
rejoin the effort as she does not trust the government….
When the volunteers are assembled in Washington, D.C.,
Prodigy tells them that while the Avengers and others will be busy dealing with
the big picture, they are needed to help people and maintain order, assuring
them they the mistakes of the Initiative will not be repeated. After the
meeting, various heroes get reacquainted, including Hardball mocking Gravity
while hitting on his former girlfriend Komodo. Prodigy offers Gravity a
leadership position which prompts Firestar to suggest they be co-leaders….
And then the young heroes go about, rescuing people from
disasters and putting a stop to thieves and looters. And then news comes from
Washington of an army of Nazi War Machines, led by Sin, devastating the nation’s
capital. Rioting breaks out in Atlanta and Thor Girl, with her Asgardian look
and hammer, is accused by a mob of being one of the bad guys. Police fire on
her and she deflects a bullet which ricochets, killing an officer. She is
surrounded by a SWAT team, demanding she drop her weapon….
