Hulk #11 Review by (January 18, 2023)

Review: Very enjoyable issue, especially for those who exult in demonstrations of Hulk’s sheer power. And fans of the more violent type of sports, mustn’t forget them. And that crazy time enforcement agency, similar to those in multiple science fiction series, they were a hoot, if short-lived. Fun.

Comments: The Alternate Universe Timeline Hazard Operations Response & Intervention Team Y (AUTHORITY) was previously seen in issue #2, where this incident took place. Issue includes a tribute to the late Carlos Pacheco, penciler for Marvel and DC.

Hulk #11 Synopsis by Peter Silvestro

On Hulk Planet, Hulk has agreed to join a game of godball, despite being the smallest one there. On Hulk’s team is a huge but very nice guy named Pave while the leader of the other team is Brutal, who disdains Hulk. The object of the game is to pick up the godball, a ball hundreds of feet in diameter, made from the core of a planet and hurl it into the sky to hit pieces of the encircling debris, scoring points; there is a “goalie” up there to deflect the other team’s throws. Monolith watches, certain that, despite his brain tumors, Hulk is in no danger. Hulk is given first shot: he hurls the ball into the air but Brutal smacks it back so that it slams Hulk to the ground, crushing him. At the controls, Bruce Banner decides to increase Hulk’s strength to Level One: the Military. Hulk’s second try goes better but Brutal seizes Hulk and beats him up. Banner orders Level Two: Fin Fang Foom. Hulk uses Brutal as a baseball bat to smack the godball into space and score three points with one hit. Pave is so excited that he slams his fists down on the godball, cracking it in half; everyone else is mad at him for destroying the last ball they had left. But then…

…a portal opens and members of the Alternate Universe Timeline Hazard Operations Response & Intervention Team Y (AUTHORITY) emerge, searching for Hulk who killed their team from an alternate dimension. They send Hulk and Pave to a remote ice planet for punishment. Monolith brings up the recording of the incident from Hulk’s helmet, demonstrating that it was an accident. The response team agrees but before they can bring Hulk and Pave back, they are attacked and killed by Kuss the goalie, who misunderstood the situation, being in space. More portals open and alternate versions of the rescue team emerge and Monolith slaughters them all in battle until they surrender, having just seen the logs (with a time lag) and sue for peace. Monolith suggests that in the future they stay away from Hulk. They dispatch a team to retrieve Hulk and Pave from the ice planet—and discover the planet is gone, the two prisoners having smashed it down to its core to yield a new godball. Hulk and Pave return home as heroes and the game resumes…but Level Two Hulk is brooding….
