As General Thunderbolt Ross and Doc Samson discuss the
viability of the Abomination as a US Military operative. Mercy enters through
the wall and only Abom can see her. Ross thinks he’s faking madness but Samson
connects the word to Abigail Mercy Wright, Ivan Blonsky’s former intelligence
chief….
We see what happened all those years ago: Mercy was diagnosed
with an inoperable brain tumor and submitted her resignation so she could spend
her last days in comfort. Blonsky refused it, telling her about some radical
radiation treatments she could undergo. He asked for only one week….
As Ross and Samson talk things over, Mercy reveals to the
Abomination that she helps people pass over to the other side or brings them
back, including Betty Ross in the latter case. Abom then reveals to Mercy that
he killed Betty. When Ross and Samson react, Abom can’t believe they can’t see
Mercy….
Flashback: The radiation treatments cured Mercy’s cancer but
brought out some mental powers. Blonsky told her that only continued treatments
would keep her alive, forcing her to become his pawn. He then ordered her to
capture Bruce Banner….
At this point, Abomination concludes that Mercy is some sort
of hypnotic trick Samson is playing on him and demands he stop. Ross suspects
that it’s Abomination who is playing some sort of trick. Doc Samson continues
to study Mercy’s file….
Flashback: Mercy, then looking like a superhero clad in
purple armor with matching purple hair, confronted Hulk at a nuclear power
plant as the big guy was collecting fuel rods to aid Doc Samson’s attempt at a
cure. She hypnotized Hulk into seeing her as what he feared most, which turned
out to be Devil Hulk. She attacked…and Hulk defeated her in spite of his
fears….
Abomination, enraged, breaks free—and then the janitor, seen
working quietly in the background, steps forward, revealing himself to be
Bruce Banner. He challenges his longtime enemy to a fight….
