Rating: 3.5 stars

In Hel, Hela, Goddess of Death, is notified by the priestess Volla that one she has long awaited might soon be hers. Hela is hoping for Thor but it turns out to be Hogun. Close enough and Hela teleports to Central Park where Hogun’s comrades surround him. Thor threatens Hela but she insists Hogun is dead. True, his heart has stopped and Thor, drawing on his medical knowledge, wishes he had a defibrillator to restart Hogun’s heart. Instead, he calls down lightning strikes, twice, which restores the fallen hero’s heart. Hela notes that she will not be far away, waiting. An ambulance arrives and the EMT is Christine Collins, amazed to see gods. Thor asks her to take Hogun to the hospital and summon Jane Foster who has experience in treating gods. Fandral and Volstagg accompany Hogun while Thor goes after the Wrecking Crew. As they leave, Christine realizes that Thor knew her name….

At his cabin in Svartalfheim, Jagrfelm glories in his control of the Cask of Ancient Winters. Then a band of Dark Elves enters and kills him, their master Malekith claiming the Cask….

Thor (1998 series) #29 Review by (September 30, 2025)

Review: Not much to the issue: fussing about Hogun’s injuries—and what could the Wrecking Crew do to bring him to the point of death? Fussing over him fills about half the issue, more than is necessary. The other half is Thor beating up the Wrecking Crew and this has a visceral satisfaction that overwhelms the fact that it’s just a long action sequence. And that’s about it…

Oh and Sif in her elaborate armor does look terrifying.

Comments: Part two of two parts. That’s not how a defibrillator works. Final appearance of Jagrfelm who was introduced in issue #22. First appearance of Neffethesk.
